….lesson with Helen Wells
Today I listened to both videos but only had time to follow along with one of them. If I have time I will pull out my Geli Plate and make some papers for future collage projects.
Helen Wells was the first guest artist today and she took us through a fun drawing project that was focused mostly on colour. I follow Helen Wells online and have one of her books for inspiration. I’ve done similar assignments before and I always find them very meditative and relaxing.
…thanks to Jez for hosting Water, Water Everywhere https://jezbraithwaite.blog/2023/03/20/clyde-reflections-water-water-everywhere-168/
I live by Lake Ontario so water is literally everywhere for me. Today I tried to capture the water from different angles.

I love to browse through art galleries for a variety of reasons. It’s a great way to spend an afternoon or even just an hour or less. It informs me on what is happening in the world, the values of other cultures and the diversity of art itself. I don’t always love everything I see but I can appreciate what the artist went through to make their art. The one comment I despise from other people who think that a piece of art is unworthy to hang in a gallery is….”I could do that”. The problem is that they didn’t do that and never will.
The big art gallery in Toronto is the AGO (Art Gallery of Ontario) and I love going there but I also enjoy going to smaller galleries like the Dignam Gallery at WAAC, the Assembly Hall Gallery and all the smaller and larger galleries we visited on our trips in Europe.
The galleries below are: The Louvre in Paris – first two photos. The Musée de Beaux-Arts in Tours, France – photos 3, 4 and 5. The Museum of Contemporary Art in Tours, France – photos 6,7 and 8. The Estorick Collection of Modern Italian Art in London, England – photos 9, 10 and 11. The Barbican Art Gallery in London, England – photos 12, 13 and 14. The Tate Modern in London, England – photos 15m 16 and 17. The Dignam Art Gallery at WAAC in Toronto – photos 18, 19, 20 and 21 and Neilson Park Creative Centre in Etobicoke – photos 22, 23 and 24 . The Assembly Hall Gallery in Toronto – photos 25, 26 and 27.
….I’m not committing to doing the art each day but today’s lessons intrigued me and helped me warm up for my next painting
Today’s lessons were both focused on creating art around a blob of colour. Koosje Koene gave the first lesson using watercolour and Mike Lowery used markers. Both were fun to do and got me ready to paint on my next painting for my solo show in May.

….textures at the Assembly Hall
On my walk yesterday I went further than I have in months. It was a cool but gorgeous day as I made my way over to the Assembly Hall. It was about a 6K walk there and back. When I reached the hall I discovered that there was an art show on display called Herstory. It was put together by a group of Women from the Niagara Women’s Collective (SWFT) showcasing unique stories of women with overlapping experiences.
Some of my favourite pieces were the soft sculptures by Debra Jackson-Jones and Mori McCrae.

I also enjoyed Francie McGlynn’s paintings that included soft woven patches of fabric and hard edged buttons.

For those of you who live close by, the show runs till March 29, 2023 at the Assembly Hall Gallery at 1 Colonel Samuel Smith Park Dr., Toronto, ON.
….despite the cold temperatures there are signs everywhere that spring is here
Today the sun is out and the temperatures are above freezing….momentarily.

…thanks to Sue W and GC for hosting Weekly Prompts https://weeklyprompts.com/2023/03/18/weekly-prompts-weekend-challenge-content/
When I thought of the word ‘content’ my mind went immediately to the meaning, ‘a state of pleasure or being satisfied’. Of course it also means ‘subject matter’. Which do you think I chose to represent?
Today we attended College Royal at the University of Guelph. In the Food Science building the students made milkshakes. This has always been a popular event but we have not seen it since 2019 because of COVID-19. Clearly people were happy to see it come back. The line-up was huge. We heard that the students were prepared to sell 4000 shakes.

Neighbours mean the world to us. Not only do we help each other out in times of need or to carry out a goal, we also have become friends and celebrate special times in our lives together.
Trish and I picked up garbage in the neighbourhood for a month when COVID first hit. It was her idea but I was right there with her for 30 days.
