I love walking through the Colonel Sam Smith Park in South Etobicoke (west end of Toronto) and strolling along the walkways but I also like to take some of the side trails to see where they take me.
…this Easter weekend has involved painting, drawing, getting together with family and eating…lots of eating
Every family celebrates this time of year differently but it almost always includes food. In our house it also includes drawing and painting and getting outside to walk and take photos.

As I take my daily walks with my camera in hand, I’m alway in the state of wonderment with the beauty that surrounds me every day. I’m saddened by the fact that so many people never see what is right in front of their eyes. Many evenings I have run out of the house with my camera in hand to catch a beautiful sunset or quietly stood by my back door to catch the birds and squirrels come to the feeder.

Some birds hang out all winter long, especially the waterfowl. On my walk recently the ducks were close to shore and didn’t seem to mind me being there.
…I started out in the morning when the snow was still light
I knew that as the snow accumulated throughout the day I was less likely to get out for my walk so I bundled up and headed out mid-morning. On the way as the snow started to accumulate on the plants and trees I stopped to take a few shots of the freshly fallen ice crystals.

I’m always searching for the perfect or at least somewhat interesting photo when I’m out walking. On days like today when the temperatures have dipped below freezing and there’s a brisk wind in your face it’s uncomfortable taking off your gloves to shoot that perfect shot. I have come up with ways to warm up my hands when I put the gloves back on but I am definitely fussier as to what I want to photograph.
Today on my walk in the park I managed to get a shot of the beach closest to the park entrance. After taking my first photo a flock of geese took off in the sky and I managed to grab another shot. I wanted to get a photo of the bullrushes that were shaking off their fluffy seeds but the wind prevented me from getting a perfectly focused shot. In the end I decided that the shots that I had managed to get were fine for today and because I was in danger of slipping into the pond if I got any closer to the bullrushes the consequences could have been very bad for my health and longevity.
…yesterday I’m sure we hit some records for temperature highs in February
