The Food in France

…..we’re on a culinary adventure

Before venturing out on this trip I lost 12 pounds. I’ve been walking anywhere from 10 000 to 16 000 steps every day. Both these things are good because the food here is amazing. There are cafés everywhere and boulangeries and patisseries on every street.

Right below our apartment there are at least five outdoor restaurants and across the street there are five more.

The market is about a ten minute walk from our place and it takes us through a lovely treed boulevard.

We’ve quickly learned that a lot of shops and/or vendors here don’t open on Monday and Tuesday, especially smaller places. Larger main stream stores are open all the time. Here are just a few delights from the market.

Paté de Pacque….an Easter specialty
The best croissants in town
…..and of course coffee
…..and lots of wine

Water, Water Everywhere – February 16, 2022

….thanks Jez for hosting Water, Water Everywhere https://jezbraithwaite.blog/2022/02/14/solitary-duckling-water-water-everywhere-114/

When the sun shines and the winds are minimal I love to walk along the shores of this Great Lake. Even when the temperatures are sitting at -10 degrees celsius the walk is very mediative. The lake rarely freezes because it is so deep but on a day like this when the water is perfectly still it is so clear that you can see the bottom close to the shore.

Walking in -13 Degree Weather

surprisingly pleasant

Last week the temperatures dipped well below zero but the sun was shining and winds were minimal. I put on a pair of long johns, my big blue parka, my scarf, hat and my warmest mitts and off I went. I was surprisingly warm. I invested in a good pair of winter hiking boots a few years ago and I’ve never experienced cold feet.

I kept my phone in the pocket of my coat and I worried that the cold might affect the battery but I was able to take a lot of photos and it held up well against the cold. Here are a few shots of things that I saw on my walk that day. Enjoy!

Christmas Doors in Niagara-on-the-Lake

….thanks to Dan from No Facilities for hosting Thursday Doors https://nofacilities.com/2021/12/02/random-duluth-doors/

Walking through the neighbourhoods in Niagara-on-the-Lake this time of year is like being in a Hallmark Christmas movie.
