Cee’s Black and White Photo Challenge – Sculptures, Statues and Carvings

This summer I’ve spent as much time as possible visiting art galleries, museums and gardens. The first group of photos are from the grounds surrounding the McMichael Gallery in Kleinberg. These amazing sculptures were created by Ivan Eyre.
The next set were taken at the AGO from the Rebecca Belmore show. Rebecca is an Anishinaabekwe artist who is known for her performance and installation work.
Chicken – 365 Days of Art
….day 144
The assignment from Carla Sonheim this week was to find a photograph of a chicken and draw the outline with a black Sharpie and then with a finer marker make some detail marks and lastly take a pencil and add some shading. It was optional to add colour with some light coloured markers.
I think I will try this again but use lighter markers or no colour at all.
Developing More Characters
….days 141 to 143 of 365 Days of Art
Over the long weekend I was totally engrossed in creating these collage characters made from art papers. The first thing I had to do was create more art paper because I had left my collage papers at home. Out came the watercolour paper and my watercolour set and I went to town. 
Once they dried I cut out random shapes in different sizes and then I started to play. Here are three more ‘characters’ that I created from the cut out shapes.
Character Development – Collage Bird

Over the long weekend I worked on Carla Sonheim’s assignment, Character Development. We had to take art papers and cut them up into random shapes….large, medium and small. Then the fun began.
I looked at all the pieces and looked for shapes to create an animal. The idea here was not to go with the first creation but continue to move pieces around and change them until you saw something that you really liked. Here is my little bird, duck, chicken going through different stages.

Shiver Me Timbits
….Day 139 of 365 Days of Art
My granddaughter picks up language so quickly and sometimes she takes expressions and changes them for her amusement. I guess she must have heard the saying ‘shiver me timbers’ and she changed it to ‘shiver me Timbits’. For those of you who aren’t Canadian a Timbit is a small round doughnut or doughnut hole sold at the Tim Horton’s Coffee chain.
I took her expression and attempted to draw a box of ‘cold, shivering Timbits’.

In regards to puzzle what’s your choice: jigsaw, crossword, word search, mazes, logic or numeric puzzles, something else, or nothing?
My favourite puzzle is Sudoku.
List at least five favorite treats and it doesn’t necessarily have to be food.
I like to treat myself to the following:
A premium ice-cream in a cup
A manicure and pedicure
A good movie
An evening out with friends
A nice glass of wine with my husband
A piece of torte with my father (he loves his cake)
A slice of freshly baked bread slathered with butter
What is your favorite type of dog? (can be anything from a specific breed, a stuffed animal or character in a movie)
My favourite dog is hands down a golden retriever. I’ve owned two in my lifetime. We now have a mutt who is definitely my husband’s dog. He’s always said that the goldens were my dogs and Frances is his. (Scully is 15 years old in this photo and Frances is going on 12)

This was a very special week because my son was visiting from London, England. There was a lot of eating and drinking, touring museums and art galleries, visiting his sister in Hamilton and attending a rugby game.

Portraits of Two Fine Gentlemen

Yesterday I posted some portraits of older men that I found photos of on the internet. Two of my followers, Ivor and Derrick, made some nice comments about my work so I decided to try and draw them. I hope they won’t be offended at my attempts.
I found a photo on Ivor’s site Ivor.Plumber/Poet which I attempted to draw. The glasses were a bit tricky because there was a glare on them and I drew them slightly off kilter.
Derrick’s photo came from his profile picture. Sorry Jackie I left you out of the drawing. Check out the countryside where Derrick lives.
Old Men – Part One
….days 129 to 135 of 365 Days of Art
I love the lines and facial hair in old men. They’re so much fun to draw. Last week Carla Sonheim asked us to draw numerous portraits of people. We could choose any subjects that we wanted so I searched the internet for photos of interesting older men.
We were to select a variety of papers to draw on and use black markers and liquid ink. I tried making my drawings using the blind contour method but I found myself looking more and more at my drawing.
Once we created a variety of portraits we had to place them on a larger piece of paper and decide how to arrange them and which ones to use. The first shot has all seven portraits and the next one has one less. Which one do you prefer?
Not sure what part two involves. I may make my final decision when I find out where this project is going.
