Abandoned Sneakers in the Snow – Odd?

thanks to Becky B for hosting Square Odds – https://beckybofwinchester.com/2022/02/16/the-square-odds-16/

It’s one thing to find abandoned shoes in the good weather but when you see two pair of relatively new running shoes nestled in the snow it makes you wonder what the owners were thinking. It turns out that these were next to an outdoor skating rink but I still found it odd that the shoes were left outside when there is an indoor facility next to the rink where you can change and store boots and shoes.

Soon after I took this photo the owners came by and quickly retrieved their sneakers. I’m sure they thought it was odd that I was taking a photo of their shoes.

Water, Water Everywhere – February 16, 2022

….thanks Jez for hosting Water, Water Everywhere https://jezbraithwaite.blog/2022/02/14/solitary-duckling-water-water-everywhere-114/

When the sun shines and the winds are minimal I love to walk along the shores of this Great Lake. Even when the temperatures are sitting at -10 degrees celsius the walk is very mediative. The lake rarely freezes because it is so deep but on a day like this when the water is perfectly still it is so clear that you can see the bottom close to the shore.

Share Your Desktop – February 15, 2022

thanks to Clare for hosting Share Your Desktop https://clarehoran.com/2022/01/16/share-your-desktop-january-2022/

I’m not sure how often I will participate in this challenge because I haven’t changed my desktop for at least a couple of years. Maybe I should start doing that but I love this photo of Big Sand Bay on Christian Island.

The Absence of Art Posts

….from both my husband and me

Has the well of creativity run dry? Have we run out of art supplies? No, none of that is true.

During the holidays making art was difficult because we had the house full of family. Even after they left it took awhile to get our Mojo back. Then the accident happened. Ten days ago my husband, Kevin, fell down the stairs at home and broke his hip. He was taken to the hospital by ambulance and the next day they did a hip replacement.

The amazing part of this story is that his operation was new and his recovery time is much faster. So fast in fact that they sent him home the same day of his surgery. They got him out of bed one hour after his operation and had him walking and climbing up and down stairs. After that they said he was good to go. Everything our friends who’ve had hip surgeries told us to expecthad didn’t apply to Kevin. No restrictions as to movement and his physio is taking place at home.

We set him up in the basement apartment because everything is at his fingertips. He has a walk-in shower with grab bars, a kitchen, TV and new bed. Climbing stairs to come upstairs is not recommended for another week (although I caught him going half way up the stairs to retrieve some mail). As a result I’ve been cooking all the meals (he can do toast and snacks) and all the running around for meds, food and other necessities, such as a new laptop for his business. Needless to say I’m finding it difficult to find time to do my blog and make art.

Kevin was very impressed with the nursing staff a Toronto Western and saw some of the abuse they have to endure from disgruntled patients. He wanted to do something special for them so he made a painting for them. I brought his art supplies to the basement and this is what he made.

With Valentine’s Day close at hand he also got busy and made a card for the family.

In New Brunswick, our Miss Winnie was busy making Valentine’s Day cards for every member of her class and she personalized each card by drawing something that the child likes or has an interest in. Luckily she only has 13 classmates.

Who Does This? Square Odds for February 15, 2022

….a discovery I made on my walk yesterday

It was cold and icy but I decided to walk along the path in front of the lake. With the fluctuating temperatures we’ve been having the cleared paths had filled in with melting snow, which froze and then melted again and then froze again so the nature paths were no longer clear. Instead they were like skating rinks and today and they were dusted with a fine layer of freshly fallen snow. It made for a somewhat treacherous walk.

I carefully walked along the path trying to avoid any icy patches but it was near impossible. There was a set of footprints in the snow that I tried to follow but the owner of these prints didn’t have much luck missing the ice either. About 100 metres into the walk along the lake I came upon a very odd sight. There in front of me was a tripod set up in the snow. No camera and no owner anywhere to be seen. Who does that? Set up a tripod and then walk away.

Pull Up a Seat and Enjoy the Art

….thanks to XingFu Mama for hosting https://xingfumama.blog/2022/02/11/pull-up-a-seat-photo-challenge-2022-week-6/

When you go to art galleries there are usually places to sit and really examine the art on the wall. The Women’s Art Association of Canada is no exception. When I was gallery sitting two weeks ago I went around the room and took photos of the interesting chairs in the Dignam Gallery.

Walking in -13 Degree Weather

surprisingly pleasant

Last week the temperatures dipped well below zero but the sun was shining and winds were minimal. I put on a pair of long johns, my big blue parka, my scarf, hat and my warmest mitts and off I went. I was surprisingly warm. I invested in a good pair of winter hiking boots a few years ago and I’ve never experienced cold feet.

I kept my phone in the pocket of my coat and I worried that the cold might affect the battery but I was able to take a lot of photos and it held up well against the cold. Here are a few shots of things that I saw on my walk that day. Enjoy!

After closing down because of COVID restrictions the Centennial Park Conservatory reopened yesterday. What a wonderful time just browsing and taking photos of these beautiful flowers.

Thursday Trios – January 27, 2022

….another late post

All the days seem to run into each other and there are times when I literally forget what day of the week it is. I don’t think it’s an age thing but more of a COVID reality and winter blues combination. I’ve found it difficult to get out of the house to take photos and when I do finally get my coat on it’s already getting dark and the opportunity for taking photos of trios has diminished. Today’s trios are mostly from the archives but the three swans were captured by my camera earlier this week.
