I’m a Fan of Walking

…thanks to Jez for hosting I’m a fan of…..

Even though Jez is ‘taking a break’ from hosting for awhile I thought I would share my love of walking. Whenever I get a chance to go for a walk or hike with my kids I jump at it, especially now. Up till now we’ve socially distanced ourselves, even on visits to our homes.

On the weekend, after our Father’s Day gathering with the family (in the backyard) my oldest daughter and I got in the car and drove to Mono Cliffs Provincial Park. It’s about a 1 1/2 hour drive north of the city. Andrea had to pick up some race materials from a store in Orangeville so we decided to make the most of the outing and go for a hike.

Everything took longer than we thought. The drive took longer, the hike took longer and getting the race materials was the last thing on our list of things to do. Andrea was hoping to be back in the city by 1:30 but we didn’t even leave Orangeville till 1:30.

None of it mattered though because we had a great walk, we managed to pick up the race materials and the plans in Toronto were somewhat delayed anyway so no one was put out.

Mono Cliffs is an area that I have visited many times, mostly with my students. I think I’ve been up at the Outdoor Education Centre at least ten times. The Provincial Park is right next door and we would often take the kids to the Lookout and the ponds that are situated there. Going in from the other side was new for me. At the end of the hike we walked at least 5K. What a great morning!

Friendly Friday – The Colour Pink

….thanks to Amanda and her guest blogger, Vero for hosting Friendly Friday

Pink was not a colour that I wore as a child. As an adult I discovered that a warm pink was very flattering to my skin tone and I started to purchase and wear pink items. Our granddaughter loves pink.6-F384-A7-A-52-A6-440-D-B294-3-ED4337-D203-B

Visiting From Afar

….every other week we drive to Hamilton for a procedure at McMaster Hospital and then we drive over to our daughter’s house and visit from a socially acceptable distance

This week our trip to Hamilton allowed us to see our granddaughter and daughter from the porch. Winnie proudly showed off her new bicycle. Fortunately is was a beautiful warm day and we were able to sit outside. We also brought her some new art materials and she promptly made us a picture in her new sketchbook.D76-E1156-982-A-4497-908-E-C17804788-EC9-1-201-a

Soon after she finished her picture she politely excused herself because she had to get things ready for her tea party with her other grandmother, whom she was seeing later that day. At 4 1/2 she seems so mature. It seems like it was only yesterday that I was cradling her in my arms.

Photo a Week Challenge – Fleeting

Fleeting

fleet·ing
/ˈflēdiNG/
adjective
“hoping to get a fleeting glimpse of a whale underwater”
Similar: brief, transient, short-lived, momentary, sudden, cursory, transitory
Children grow up so quickly. A newborn quickly transitions from a helpless babe in your arms to an infant trying to push herself up and learning to express herself vocally. These are all the steps that I’m missing because of COVID-19. Thank goodness for the digital world where I can witness these things second hand.

Yesterday for a fleeting moment we saw our oldest granddaughter from a safe distance in front of their home in Hamilton. We were able to finally deliver her Easter gifts. Later in the day her mom sent us a photo of her enjoying her gifts.

Art for Winnie

….still trying to send mail to our granddaughter

Before Easter our daughter put out a request to the family to send snail mail to Winnie. She was missing her friends and family and getting mail addressed to her might cheer her up. To date we’ve sent four envelopes stuffed with art and ideas to make art, stickers and other little surprises. So far three of the envelopes have been delivered.

We knew that we had to make a trip to Hamilton this week so I started making a paper doll house that came with a doll, furniture, dishes, a rug and a kettle. I ordered it on-line from an artist who was giving the templates away for free. I had so much fun putting it together and before I knew it I started to add more features, like a tree, a pathway, a wall in the backyard, and a outdoor lounging chair.49354181-2-CF1-49-A2-B204-B98-AF0733-AA8-1-201-a

If you check out the website for Dawning Collective you might still be able to get the doll house kit. Have fun!

Day 21 – Today’s Dinner

…thanks to Leanne Cole for hosting the 30 Day at Home Challenge

Today’s theme is What’s for Dinner? I didn’t see this prompt until just now but luckily we took photos of our dinner because it was pizza night at Chez Cormier and we like to share with our family. Unfortunately this year we’re only able to share from a distance with photos.11018-DA5-EE69-4-C3-B-AC09-D921581138-FA

30 Day at Home Challenge – Day 14

…I’ve finally caught up….today’s theme is Family

Thanks to Leanne Cole for hosting this fun challenge. Today we are suppose to photograph a family member. Since my husband and I are the only ones in our house right now, besides the dog, I decided to share this photo.  I took this on the weekend when I was feeling particularly sad. He brought a smile to my face while he was doing what he loves to do….cook for me.

Top Dog

…thanks to Becky B for hosting #squaretops

We’ve owned three dogs during our married life. The first two were Golden Retrievers. We had Abby for almost eight years before she passed and Scully lived to the ripe old age of 15 years and 40 days. My husband always said that when Scully went we wouldn’t get another dog…..until he met Frances.

Frances came to us as a puppy because our oldest daughter who had been working from home got a brand new job that required her to leave the house every day. Not ideal for training a new dog. My husband agreed to look after her until a new owner could be found but after one week with us he couldn’t give her up. She is now 13 1/2 and has slowed down considerably.

Frances, in the eyes of my husband is his dog and will always be Top Dog.CFE0-BA5-E-46-F1-4693-8397-441-B04-F7-D162-1-201-a
