Friendly Friday: Photo Walk

…thanks to Snow from The Snow Melts Somewhere for hosting Friendly Friday

My photo walk takes place on Sunday. Friday and Saturday were exceptionally busy and I didn’t get out for my long walk. Today I made sure to get out before noon.

I left my house and walked toward the park that edges onto the lake.IMG-1910

I continued along Lakeshore Drive and turned onto 4th St. which ends in a dead end but the property on the east side is abandoned so I walked toward the lake again.IMG-1916

I noticed that a large flock of swans were swimming together at the foot of Prince of Wales Park so I continued east.IMG-1918

After taking a dozen or more photos I decided to continue on my walk along the shores of Lake Ontario before the swans decided they had enough of this intruder with her iPhone camera. You can see from one of the following photos that there’s still a little bit of ice hanging onto the shoreline.IMG-1931

As I left the park I continued through the neighbourhood until I reached a tiny parkette on Sand Beach Road.

I then turned north and walked towards the busy street of Lakeshore Blvd. and headed home.IMG-1948

A Photo a Week Challenge – Sunshine

…thanks to Nancy Merrill for hosting A Photo a Week Challenge

It seems like we haven’t seen too much sunshine as of late but between blizzards last Wednesday the sun did come out for a brief spell.IMG-1858

Celebrating Women Who Are 80 and Older

…..at the Women’s Art Association of Canada

As of yesterday WAAC is hosting a series of parties called BASH. Each party has a slightly different theme but they all celebrate the wonderful work of its members who are octogenarians or older. Last night’s theme was a Mai-Tai party.

The evening featured a pianist and the Ukulele Ladies (who were about to turn 80 or already there). The silent auction was revealed and of course the featured drink was the  Mai Tai (lovingly made by one of the co-chairs of WAAC, Dale B.) The art on display in the main gallery was created by the members who were 80 years old and older. The work was beautiful and one of the members in attendance last night sold her piece. She was delighted.

There are four more parties. Not sure I will make them all but the money raised will go to building a much needed ramp to make the building accessible to all.

Out Like a Lion

….good-bye March

I know that if March comes in like a lamb it’s suppose to go out like a lion. I’m not sure that this qualifies as a lion but before I went to bed just after midnight I saw this:IMG-1831

….this morning I woke up to this and it’s still snowing.

I don’t know why I’m surprised by this. We get snow in April sometimes. Luckily this won’t last long and it will probably be gone later today.

Pull Up a Seat Photo Challenge – Week 13

….thanks to Xingfu Mama for hosting the Pull Up a Seat Photo Challenge’

During our trip to the vineyards in the Niagara Region I noticed that a lot of the wineries were preparing for the good weather by bringing out their garden furniture. Unfortunately it’s not quite warm enough to ‘pull up a seat’ and enjoy the great outdoors.IMG-1755

It was quite another story over a Icellars  where the seats were indoors and very comfy for wine tasting.

Between the Lines had some nice chairs inside as well but they seemed more ornamental  than practical.

Do the green coconut leaves look odd to you on this winter scene?

I wanted to pick one of these up to illustrate how large they are until my daughter pointed out the sign on the shelf.

Thursday Doors – Niagara Wineries

….thanks to Norm for hosting Thursday Doors

Lunch, five wineries, tastings and great company. Today my daughter and daughter-in-law joined my husband and me and together we took a drive down to St. David’s in the Niagara region. I knew ahead of time that I wanted to take part in Norm’s door challenge so I packed my camera bag in search of some great doors and wine of course.

We started out at Ravine where we had a wonderful lunch first and then began our wine tasting adventure. All in all we went to five smaller wineries, tasted some fantastic wine and met some wonderful people who were very passionate about their products.IMG-1754

Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge – Roads: Country, Freeways, Streets, Dirt, etc.

….thanks to Cee for hosting the Fun Foto Challenge

We had an outing today that took us to wine country in the Niagara Region. To get there we travelled on the highway and country roads and over pavement, gravel and dirt.

Sunny but Cold

…..six days into spring and it still feels like winter

Despite the cold, the sun makes me want to walk around my neighbourhood. When the wind isn’t blowing it isn’t too bad. Unfortunately the areas that I like walking the best are always near the lake and even the tiniest breeze can be bone chilling cold. For some reason the geese, ducks and swans don’t seem bothered by the cold. It must be all that lovely down next to their bodies.IMG-1700
