This week in Niagara-on-the-Lake the Main Street was set up for the Ice Wine Festival.

Niagara-on-the-Lake is a quaint village full of old world architecture. The Main Street is full of charming gift shops, retro and designer clothing stores, hat shops, confectionary stores, cozy coffee shops, old theatres, Christmas shops, a variety of restaurants and pubs and high end renovated inns and spas.
In January many stores are closed for the season or have limited hours. Luckily we found enough places to explore and enjoy but some of our favourite walks took place through the neighbourhood close to our hotel. This is where we found some amazing doors.
…and I don’t think they’re finished decorating
While visiting this quaint town on the Niagara River we discovered this home during the day on one of our walks. The decorations were pretty amazing and we saw a work table and power tools on the driveway indicating that the homeowner was still busy setting up lights and decorations.
Later that afternoon, after the sun had gone down we were driving back to our hotel when we came up to the same house but now the lights were on. What a spectacular sight. I’m not sure that my photos do it justice.

Walking through the neighbourhoods in Niagara-on-the-Lake this time of year is like being in a Hallmark Christmas movie.
I love autumn. The cooler temperatures appeal to me and visually I find the colours breathtaking. I also love the abundance of fresh fruits and vegetables and how people use pumpkins, peppers and squash to decorate their porches and storefronts. Here are a few of my favourite bursts of colour and some creative pots of plants in the neighbourhood and beyond.

Last week I went to Niagara-on-the Lake to take in an afternoon show at the Old Courthouse. As we walked back to the car I couldn’t help but notice the lovely doors on the homes close to the downtown area.
