…it’s been a rainy end of April and beginning of May
Even though it’s been cold and windy there’s something about the clouds that lift up my spirits.
Water, Water Everywhere – Grimsby Beach

Today we drove to Grimsby, ON to check out the village of Grimsby and Grimsby Beach. Grimsby is located on the shores of Lake Ontario and is south of Hamilton.
The first stop we made was Grimsby Beach Park. It’s a truly magical setting, with parkland, a rocky beach, pathways and brightly painted cottages (more about that in another post).

Has Winter Left Us for Good?
….I can only hope but I’m not holding my breath
The last 10 days have been glorious. It started last week when we travelled to Niagara Falls for the day and the temperature rose to 20 degrees celsius. That practically t-shirt weather. I’ve seen signs of an early spring almost every day but in between we’ve had a few chilly days. Here are a few sure signs that spring isn’t far off.
People wearing shorts and t-shirts, enjoying the sun in the park, drinking coffee outside, daffodils in the markets, children playing in the park, wildflowers popping up through the brown leaves, beaver activity and grass turning green.
Going for a Winter Evening Walk

Well I guess I’m exaggerating a bit but it was snowing and it was cold. When my husband said he wanted to walk in the snow and take some photos of the street I quickly put on my coat so that I could join him. I needed some more steps to get to my 10 000 step goal anyway.
It’s nice seeing some of the Christmas lights still on. This year people have decided that we need more colour and light in our lives because of COVID so many homes are still brightly lit in the evenings. It’s quite pretty against the snow.
More Snow’s a Coming

Later today we should see a fair accumulation of the white stuff.
Encased in Ice
….it may come as a surprise that there is any ice anywhere with these crazy mild weather we’ve been having
That said there are many areas where ponds are dangerously covered in thin layers of ice. There are signs all over Grenadier Pond that the ice is too thin to walk on but any fool should be able to see that from the open water near the middle of the pond. Every day the ice gets thinner and thinner but the weather is starting to change and it should freeze over again. Not sure how long it will take for it to be safe but I’m not going to test it out.
I always find it amazing that trees can survive the extreme temperatures, especially those that are already growing out of the water. Here are some shots of the ponds in High Park over the last five days.
