A Hot Mess

….and back to drawing flowers

I’ve just started another year long course with Carla Sonheim. Lesson one started on Friday.

The first lesson is to draw a series of made up characters that represent a fictional family. We were to use a variety of media and techniques but the most important part was to have fun. I don’t know why but I wasn’t having fun and at one point I really wasn’t happy and I added water to my painting. I made quite the mess but I decided to let it dry and make something out of it with more marks and layers. Like I said it’s a bit of a hot mess but I don’t want to give up so I created a smaller piece with fewer characters. I’ll try a larger family later.

I’ve also gone back to my floral drawings. Today I drew a peony.

Sculpture Saturday – January 9, 2021

not sure if Ruined for Life is still hosting Sculpture Saturday but if he is, thanks https://smkelly8.com/2020/11/07/sculpture-saturday-43/

On a recent walk to Humber College my husband and I came across this amazing bronze sculpture. What was almost more interesting was the artist’s statement about this larger than life size piece. Please take a moment to read the significance of the man’s stance and how the artist saw people interpreting it in different ways.

My Daily Art Challenge – Day 7

I’m trying to paint, draw or at least doodle every day

I’m really enjoying working with my watercolours again. I’m experimenting with more watercolour abstracts and adding ink, charcoal and pen markings. Here’s my latest piece. I have two more sitting on my art table waiting for finishing touches.

Thursday Trios – Week 2

….hope you can join me on this new challenge

Thursday Trios can be anything that you find in groups of three or even something that you’ve staged as a grouping of three. This week’s trios are the three painted rocks and green tomatoes on the vine……

Back to Painting – January 6, 2021

….a little drawing, some colouring and back to watercolours

After making my line drawing yesterday I was in the mood to get out the watercolours and ink and make another abstract floral on paper. I do get a lot of satisfaction from this style of art and will probably make more.

Orange Blooms

Day 5 – Sunny Day

….it was actually very grey today but a sunny day for my art

Sunflowers are one of my favourite flowers and I really enjoyed sketching it yesterday. Today I decided to draw another one but add some collage and colour. I started with the pieces of text collage and then I sketched the flower over it. I added the colour with Tombow markers and at the end I glued down the hummingbird that I had in my collage paper pile.

I had a very productive evening and also painted another floral abstract on watercolour paper but I think I’ll save that for tomorrow in case I don’t get to my art table.

A Mermaid Prompt for Day 3

….for those who are keeping track of my doodling adventures

Late last night on the third day of January I cracked open my book or prompts and the next in line was ‘a mermaid’. I searched for an image that I thought I might be able to draw. I found one that was clearly a mermaid but didn’t have too many details to bog me down. Here is my attempt to draw a mermaid.
