International Handwriting Day
…January 23rd was International Handwriting Day
I know I’m now a couple of days late to make this announcement but at the time I thought it was interesting. Handwriting really has become a lost art. In honour of the day I created a simple piece of art and second abstract piece.
Making Art is a Family Affair
….today was a very productive day for art making
Not only did I complete two more watercolour abstracts but my husband made three more paintings and our granddaughter made a drawing with her mother after watching a youtube video.
From Start to Finish
…I love this kind of painting
My first layer with the two that I finished today is a free flowing streak of black ink. In order to continue with water colour I had to let the ink dry completely.
The next stage is to add blocks of watercolour over the paper and leave some white areas.
Now the fun starts. I make random marks using pencil, pencil crayon, marker, ink and more watercolour or acrylic. I keep playing until I’m happy with the finished product and then I sign it and remove the tape. Both pieces fit into a matt with an 8 x 10 opening.
Wacky Bird Wednesday – January 20, 2021
…my husband forgot that he had already painted a bird earlier in the week so it’s a two for one day
Still Making Art
….but not posting every day
Sometimes it takes me three days to finish a piece like this which I started with Winnie last week. After I filled in the spaces with watercolour I add to add some marks, so for the next three evenings I sat in front of the TV and added the tangles with black and white ink.
Monster Monday – Double the Fun
…my husband was very ambitious this weekend and created two monsters for the price of one
Actually earlier in the week he also painted another two so in fact he has four monsters for today’s post. Quadruple the fun.
He’s also discovered that scanning his work gives a much cleaner finish and eliminates the shadows.

Another Art Day With Winnie
…I guess Winnie likes making art with her Oma over Zoom
Today Winnie wanted to make more collage people. Most of her time was spent cutting out pictures from her Chirp magazine and then gluing about four pieces onto a sheet of paper. While she was doing that I took the precut pieces I had in my bowl collage papers and started on my Mrs. Potato Head creation, with Winnie’s approval of course. I love how she says ‘that’s perfect’ every time I showed her my progress.
We also did some more intuitive art that Winnie directed but I’ve yet to finish that piece. Unfortunately I don’t have Winnie’s art to show you.
This is my art for day 14 of my year long art challenge…..maybe I should make it a month long challenge.
