Life in Colour – Brown

….thanks to Jude of Travel Words for hosting Life in Colour

The colour for this month is brown. Brown is not the first colour that comes to mind for me but in my art I am appreciating this neutral colour more and more. In the family of browns one can find colours such as burnt sienna, raw sienna, burnt umber, chocolate brown, tan, beige, taupe, chestnut, russet, desert sand and beaver. Many of these browns are easily found in nature.

Bursting With Seeds

….Withering flowers and seed pods

I love this time of year with all the autumn colours on the leaves but I also enjoy looking at the change that takes place with flowering plants, especially wildflowers. The seed pods and seed heads are almost as beautiful as the flowers themselves.

Busy Bees

….I’m loving my macro lens

I’m still learning how to use my macro lens and right now I feel like I’m not really in control. It’s very hit or miss when I’m trying to capture the perfect shot. I’m not sure what I’ve done right when I get the shot or what I’m doing wrong when I don’t. Here are a few attempts at trying to capture bees at work.

The bottom photo is obviously not a bee but when my lens got close enough to get a clear shot these orange and black milkweed bugs would quickly move to the back of the milkweed pod that they were sitting on.

Can anyone give me suggestions for getting better close-up shots. When I adjust the lens it doesn’t appear to change what I’m seeing through the lens.

Seven Day Nature Challenge – Day 5

….the lovely Becca Givens from On Dragonfly Wings With Buttercup Tea  invited me to join the Seven Day Nature Challenge

On day 5 I’m inviting anyone who likes to take nature photos to join the challenge. Today’s photo was taken late yesterday afternoon when the sun was low in the sky, bathing everything in it’s beautiful golden light. Also high in the sky the moon was making an early appearance.

Seven Day Nature Challenge – Day 3

Becca Givens from On Butterfly Wings with Buttercup Tea has invited me to join the Seven Day Nature Challenge. Here is my Day 3 entry. If anyone would like to join the challenge let me know and I will include you in the challenge. Today I would like to invite Derrick J. Knight to join the fun. I’ve only recently started following Derrick but he seems to be an avid gardener and he’s been blogging almost as long as I have.

Seven Day Nature Challenge – Day 2

The lovely Becca Givens from On Dragonfly Wings With Buttercup Tea  has invited me to join the Seven Day Nature Challenge. Every day I will post a photo taken from nature and invite a new person to participate in the challenge.

On day 2 I’m asking Joanne over at My Life Lived Full to join the Seven Day Nature Challenge. She’s travelled far and taken some wonderful photos. I’m hoping she’ll share some of her nature photos in this challenge.
