Like Peeling Back the Pages of a Book

….I love how birch bark curls when it ages

I don’t advocate peeling back the bark of any tree for it can do serious damage to the tree. The birch tree as it ages and with the effects of wind and rain experiences changes to its outer bark. If you look closely it reveals all kinds of mysteries that lie within the tree.

It’s Beginning to Change

….not just the temperature and the amount of daylight hours

Last week I spent four days at the cottage. It was only my third visit of the season and next week I’ll do one more visit and close up for the winter. It’s been a strange cottage season for the lessees on Christian Island but I’ve enjoyed it non the less.

Even walking through the woods was prohibited but we were allowed to venture to the beach and up and down our lanes. I’m beginning to notice the signs that autumn and winter are on their way. When the winds start up the acorns land hard on our metal roof and make a loud bang. There’s not a lot of change in colour yet but there are signs everywhere that it won’t be long now.

This Little Guy Looks Lost

….when the waves are high you know that the conditions aren’t ideal for frogs

Even though Georgian Bay is a fresh water body of water it’s not home to many creatures that you would find on smaller lakes. The beach is sandy and there are no weedy areas for frogs to spawn or find food. So how did he get here?

Here’s what the water looked like the day we discovered this little guy.
