A Hot Mess

….and back to drawing flowers

I’ve just started another year long course with Carla Sonheim. Lesson one started on Friday.

The first lesson is to draw a series of made up characters that represent a fictional family. We were to use a variety of media and techniques but the most important part was to have fun. I don’t know why but I wasn’t having fun and at one point I really wasn’t happy and I added water to my painting. I made quite the mess but I decided to let it dry and make something out of it with more marks and layers. Like I said it’s a bit of a hot mess but I don’t want to give up so I created a smaller piece with fewer characters. I’ll try a larger family later.

I’ve also gone back to my floral drawings. Today I drew a peony.

Sunday Trees – Paused

….thanks to Becca Givens for hosting Sunday Trees https://beccagivens.wordpress.com/2021/01/03/sunday-trees-477/

Trees in the distance. Becca is taking a pause from posting a photo this week. I hope all is well. I don’t think she’s ever taken a break in over 8 years.

Sculpture Saturday – January 9, 2021

not sure if Ruined for Life is still hosting Sculpture Saturday but if he is, thanks https://smkelly8.com/2020/11/07/sculpture-saturday-43/

On a recent walk to Humber College my husband and I came across this amazing bronze sculpture. What was almost more interesting was the artist’s statement about this larger than life size piece. Please take a moment to read the significance of the man’s stance and how the artist saw people interpreting it in different ways.

Gearing Up…Day 9 of SquareUP

thanks to Becky B for hosting January Squares https://beckybofwinchester.com/2021/01/09/square-up-9/

My granddaughters are already gearing up for their future occupations. Our five year old has a keen interest in science as you can see in the second photo where she is experimenting with things she found on her walk that day. I love the safety glasses…..safety first.

The youngest granddaughter got right into the middle of her father’s workout and is clearly gearing up to be a fitness instructor. Thanks to both my children who are the parents of these darling girls for providing today’s photos for SquareUp.

SquareUp – All Lit Up as You Look Up the CN Tower

….thanks to Becky B for hosting January Squares https://beckybofwinchester.com/2021/01/08/square-up-8/

The CN Tower in Toronto was for many decades the tallest structure in the world. It is often lit up in different colours to celebrate special days such as Pride Week, when the tower is lit in rainbow colours. When our sports teams win championships the tower lights up in the team colours.

My Daily Art Challenge – Day 7

I’m trying to paint, draw or at least doodle every day

I’m really enjoying working with my watercolours again. I’m experimenting with more watercolour abstracts and adding ink, charcoal and pen markings. Here’s my latest piece. I have two more sitting on my art table waiting for finishing touches.

Looking Up – Getting Up and Moving Forward

thanks to Becky B for hosting January Squares https://beckybofwinchester.com/2021/01/07/square-up-7/

On Day 7 we need to find joy in the world and not look down or backwards. Children teach us to look up and out as they explore their world. Our granddaughter brings us UPmost joy. I know it should be utmost but due to the challenge I’m taking some literary license.

The first photo was taken by her father when they went on a hike through the woods. He swears she did not pose for this shot. This stance came out of the blue. The second photo was taken by me. She was looking up at me as I stood on the porch (six feet apart).
