Day 13 – A Whimsical Approach

to another page that I prepped earlier in the week

This page was a lot of fun. I really didn’t know how I was going to approach the marks that I had laid down but I remembered how I used to create birds from scraps of paper. I decided to use the blobs like I would paper scraps and the plaid below became a fence.

Here is what the original piece looked like.

Weekly Prompts Weekend Challenge – Birds n Bees

….thanks to Sue W and GC for hosting Weekly Prompts

Some of my favourite subjects for photography are bees on flowers and birds. I find photographing birds more difficult because I can’t get close enough with my iPhone and I need to use my ‘big’ camera with the telephoto lens. I don’t always have the camera with me because it is awkward and heavy but when I do it takes superior shots of birds.

Thursday ‘Whimsical’ Doors – February 2, 2023

….thanks to Dan from No Facilities for hosting Thursday Doors https://nofacilities.com/2023/02/02/from-deep-in-the-archive/

On my one of my walks this week I took a slightly different route and came across a home with these adorable bird house in their front yard. They are all different and I’m sure in the warmer weather they are more than decorative.

Thursday Trios – January 27, 2022

….another late post

All the days seem to run into each other and there are times when I literally forget what day of the week it is. I don’t think it’s an age thing but more of a COVID reality and winter blues combination. I’ve found it difficult to get out of the house to take photos and when I do finally get my coat on it’s already getting dark and the opportunity for taking photos of trios has diminished. Today’s trios are mostly from the archives but the three swans were captured by my camera earlier this week.

An Unexpected Collection of Birdhouses

….on our walk this past week we came across this colourful collection hanging from the trees along the edge of the creek

Early into our walk I notice a flash of colour up ahead and as we got closer we noticed dozens of brightly painted birdhouses hanging from some of the smaller trees next to the creek. You could tell that a few were done by adults but the majority had to be done by children. I figured that some enterprising class from one of the neighbourhood schools did this as a spring project to beautify the neighbourhood and provide nesting areas for some of the smaller birds.

I was so impressed with these tiny feeders and birdhouses that I promptly went to the dollar store to buy some for my granddaughter. I also bought some small clear containers which I filled with craft paint and a variety of paint brushes. At home I put a prime coat of white paint on two of the houses and then packed everything into a gift bag. On Saturday we did a drive by visit in Hamilton to drop off our Easter candy and this special bag. Winnie was so excited that she wanted to start painting right away. When we got home her mom sent us photos of the ‘finished’ projects. I’m not sure if she’s going to add more detail but she’s pretty pleased with the way they’ve turned out.

When I hear the term welcome mat I always picture something at your front door that you actually step on as you cross the threshold. These beauties clearly were not designed to be stepped on.IMG-1424
