Do Dogs Wear Bow Ties?

,,,,”it’s a dog with a bow tie but dogs don’t wear bow ties”

This was today’s comment for today’s cartoon drawing from our granddaughter to which my husband replied….”dogs do wear bow ties…they love bow ties and Papa loves bow ties too……but Bill the Cat, not so much.”

Enjoy!dog15

Moon Papers

…the beginning of Lesson Two for 2019: The Year of the Collage

Carla Sonheim has named these papers, ‘moon papers’ because the results looks like the surface of the moon.

The process involves using a Gelli plate with a layer of fluid acrylic. After the paint has been applied evenly you lay down a sheet of transparency film and press it into the paint using your fingertips. The goal is to try and make craters and interesting patterns on the film. I experimented with different paints and different papers. One of the papers I really liked using was the vellum paper.

Using the film allows for interesting colours to emerge when you overlap two different colours. You can see from the first photo how the colours change and peek through when  overlapped. The next step is to take these papers and cut them up into organic shapes and create new collages. The hard part is going to decide which ones to cut up and what kind of shapes to make.

Digging Out

….before the sun came up

Both my husband and my neighbour were outside before 7:00 this morning shovelling out the driveway and the sidewalk. It was garbage day today so they had to shovel a path to roll out the bins and make room for them on the sidewalk. It was also my dough making day today at the Inn so my husband knew that I had to leave the house around 9:00.IMG-0206

You might be wondering why there are green markings on the snow. This is on the edge of our yard facing our other neighbour to the north of us. Actually it’s right on her driveway but she doesn’t drive her car anymore so only a path has been shovelled on one side to roll out her bins. The green markings were put there by city workers who will be coming back tomorrow. Our plumbing woes continue. More about that tomorrow.

Moving On

….to lesson two

Here’s the last random collage from lesson one that I just finished. I may go back later and do a couple more but for now I’m satisfied with what I’ve accomplished and I am anxious the try my hand at ‘moon papers’. Don’t worry if you don’t know what that is. I’ll explain in the next post.

For this collage I started with the tree trunk. After much searching I found the illustration of the girl meditating and it went from there. I decided to try my hand at adding lines of stitching. I picked up this idea from Jill Kuhn who is also doing the class, 2019: A Year of Collage. Jill is a wonderful source of inspiration and constantly praises what I do. Thank you Jill.

A Blast of Winter

….for the longest time I complained that there was NO snow

Who complains about the lack of snow? Unless you’re a skier or a child dreaming of a ‘snow day’ when all the schools get closed, very few ‘sane’ people, especially seniors, would dare utter those words. Well I guess I’m a little bit crazy because I love watching the snow come down from the warmth of my bedroom or living room and because I’m retired I can just hunker down and enjoy the beauty from my window.IMG-0190
