Thursday Trios – Jet Lag Omission

I was so certain that I had posted trios for last week’s challenge

I love travelling but there are some downsides when you take long air flights across different time zones. Today Deb informed me that she didn’t see my post and I assured her that I had posted trios for last week’s challenge. Of course I hadn’t. I’m truly sorry.

A Trip to Denmark Street and Covent Gardens

Originally Denmark street was laid out in the 17th century and named after King George of Denmark. In the 19th and 20th centuries it became a hub for sheet music sales, instrument shops and music publishers and in the mid 20fh century it attracted many famous musicians. Some notable names are David Bowie, Elton John, The Rolling Stones and the Sex Pistols.

Today Denmark is still home to many instrument shops and recording studios but the surrounding area has been demolished and redeveloped.

After exploring the street and checking out the guitars at No Tom Guitars we were in pursuit of lunch. We walked down some small streets with very trendy shops and we ended up in Covent Garden.

By the time we decided on Buns and Buns for lunch it was already mid afternoon so we only ordered a couple appetizers so that we wouldn’t spoil our appetites for dinner. A bit pricey but very tasty. https://www.bunsandbuns.com/

A Week of Art

enjoying other people’s art

Last Thursday I enjoyed a concert in the afternoon put on by the Women’s Musical Club of Toronto. They featured the tenor Asitha Tennekoon with pianist Steven Philcox and a string quartet. Here is short description of this man’s musical journey into opera.

After this very moving concert I walked over WAAC and took in the the show featuring photography for this year’s Contact Show.

On Saturday Kevin and I drove to the Better Living Building and spent a couple hours exploring the beautiful art at the Toronto Art Project. It was fun meeting artists that we followed on Instagram and conversing with new artists.

On Saturday Kevin and I continued our our art filled weekend and took the train into the city and enjoyed an afternoon listening to a big band group of young people , the Angela Pincente Orchestra at the famous Rex.

The Rex is Toronto’s oldest jazz club.https://www.therex.ca/events/angela-pincente-large-ensemble-9gmm4-txnft-w799d-h3m7j

RDP – Musical

thanks to the Ragtag community for hosting RDP https://ragtagcommunity.wordpress.com/2025/04/11/rdp-friday-musical/

Are we musical? Well we certainly love music and over the years my whole family has taken up learning to play an instrument or two.

I started singing in choirs in elementary school and as an adult I sang regularly in a German choir for 27 years and as a guest chorister in a church choir for special services. I learned to play the recorder as a child and taught my own students the melodic joys of this humble instrument. I dabble with the ukulele and have attempted to play the piano.

Two of my children learned to play the piano and they all took up instruments in school. Their choices were the cello and saxophone. Their father and my husband of almost 50 years is an avid collector and player of guitars and other stringed instruments.

Now our grandchildren are starting to show an interest in music. The cycle continues.

Two Days of Art and Culture

a little opera and lots of paintings

On Thursday I made my way downtown to listen to a wonderful opera singer, Midori Marsh.

Midori was the winner of the Women’s Musical Club of Toronto 2024 Career Development Award.

After the concert I walked over to the Royal Museum of Ontario but didn’t get beyond the gift shop because you can no longer access the museum via the store. I’m hoping this is temporary.

I could have entered from the main entrance but I wanted to check out the show at WAAC which is a block north of the ROM.

When I arrived at Women’s Art I was greeted by this sandwich board.

The show is wonderful with very large and varied pieces. One year I’ll attempt a large piece so that I can participate in this show.

Today Kevin and I attended the Lambton Kingsway Annual Art Show. Kevin learned that one of the artists that he follows was exhibiting here so he wanted to meet her.

Seven Times Two for September Squares

thanks to Becky B for hosting Seven for September Squares https://thesquaresofb.com/2024/09/19/seven-squares-19/

On a recent trip to Guelph we made a stop at a music store. Kevin loves guitars and loves to check out the guitar section. This wall had 14 (7×2) electric guitars.

Monster Monday – A Very Happy Monster

it’s been awhile since I’ve posted Kevin’s art work…issues with uploading

Happy that this one came through, sharp and clear. This little guy just found that John Scofield just dropped a new double album. (Kevin’s a big fan).

An Eclectic Collection of Trios

….for this week’s Thursday Trios I have a variety of subjects

Sorry for the delay for this week’s Thursday Trios. I had every intention of posting right after I returned from visiting a friend who is convalescing in long term care. While I was there the city was hit with a massive rain storm and when I got home I discovered that our internet was out. It took hours before it got up and running again.
