The Second Large Painting is Finished

a very late night and a good chunk of today taken up making this painting

This one gave me a bit of trouble. The background was relatively simple to complete but the foreground just didn’t pop and the lavender didn’t stand out. After a consultation with our daughter, we came up with a couple of solutions to fix the problem. Along the way I made a few other changes as well and I think I can finally call this one finished.

“Lavender Hills in Assisi”

Now I just have to sign it, seal it and wire it.

Monday Monster – Two for the Price of One

Kevin forgot to send me last week’s monster so I have two to show you today

Both drawings were done on Procreate.

This Week’s Monster

Last week’s monster looks a bit too happy for a Monday morning but not all of Kevin’s monsters are grumpy or mean.

Starting a New Piece and……

….poured too much paint

I hate wasting paint. I remember an artist saying that she never threw left over paint away. Instead she took a fresh canvas and applied all the leftover paint to it and then later created a new painting working intuitively.

I had poured so much blue paint onto my palette that I ended up completely covering three small, 6″x6″ canvases and one 12″x12″ canvas. When they dried I decided to experiment on the larger square canvas and play with painting lavender flowers. Before I did that though I did paint the sky for my second 15″x30″ piece.

Once I get going I can’t stop so I kept painting till the lavender piece was finished.

An Update on my Art Progress

….finally completed my first big piece

I showed you how my tulip painting started and after several revisions I can now say that it is finished and ready to be sealed and wired. This is the biggest piece I’ve done to date. The canvas measures 15″ x 30″.

As you can see I kept layering and layering paint till I was happy with the results. Here is the finished piece.

Making Art Over Easter

both Kevin and I have been making art but Kevin has actually finished pieces

The first is a sketch of a rabbit I did back in February but I thought in honour of Easter I would bring it back to show you. The next two are ones that Kevin did on Procreate. The first is his ‘scruffy little fox’ and the second his his Easter Bunny. He wasn’t going to make an Easter drawing but he just couldn’t help himself. I did do some more on my larger piece but I’m not ready to show the progression quite yet.

Monday Mural – In Yorkville

….viewed from the parking lot behind WAAC

Sometimes the best art is on walls and often in obscure places. Today’s mural was found facing the parking lot between Bloor St. and Prince Arthur Ave. I almost missed it because I wasn’t looking up and to the left. We were headed back to the car and I was focused on the mission to find the car. One of my friends brought my attention.
