….sculptures from the Sculpture Garden at the McMichael Gallery

Andrea petting the ears of this wolf sculpture.

Mary Anne Barkhouse (born 1961) and Michael Belmore (born 1971), lichen, 1998
In this work, the artists address issues of nature versus culture. The role of wolves in this setting is symbolic. They are positioned like silent sentinels.

The following sculptures are all part of the Sculpture Garden which was established in 2011. The nine sculptures, donated by well known Canadian artist Ivan Eyre, is part of the McMichael’s permanent collection. Eyre is perhaps best known for his large landscapes and mythological paintings.

Friday Fun Challenge – Lichen

thanks to Kate for hosting Friday Fun https://aroused.blog/2020/12/05/friday-fun-lichen/

I’ve always been fascinated with Lichen. Those dusty colours and frilly textures are very appealing to me. I had to go back into the archives for these shots.

Sunshine’s Macro Monday – August 10, 2020

…thanks to Irene for hosting Macro Monday

I’m posting the photos taken from a distance first and then I will show you the macro shots. I was at the cottage for five days and had fun looking for macro subjects.84939-F0-C-D412-49-AD-B15-D-7-AD6-C76-E867-D 76874416-A0-C4-48-D1-90-B9-56-D88-CE916-BC C6-E86083-12-E2-483-D-A9-D7-2-D15-EFC1-EA12 7-CACF569-080-B-4-AEA-8-B11-10058-A34-D5-A8 9-BDD287-F-7-FFF-46-F0-B0-A2-A07309506298

Liken the Lichen

…..I’ve always been fascinated by this composite organism

Lichen is a dual organism composed of fungi living in close association with green algae. It appears as a thin crust on bark and rocks and grows extremely slowly. Some grow as slowly as 0.01 mm per year in arctic regions  and in more temperate climates it might grow  5 to 8 mm per year. Lichen can live for thousands of years.

At my cottage, up in the Georgian Bay area, lichen appears mostly on the bark of trees. I love photographing it up close.
