Day 55 – Getting Messy

…day 1 of a new course

BB Bash is a free 14 day course for mixed media artists intended to break the rules, trust your instincts and create confidence.

The first exercise was to get messy. Don’t try to control what goes on the paper. Don’t think about it. Just lay down colour, marks and experiment with different tools.

Daily Art Challenge – Collage and Sketching

…days 51 to 53

Drawing figures from pieces of collage randomly glued onto the page

After reading the book The Dictionary of Lost Words I was inspired to create a double spread of collage and sketches that highlight some of the themes from Pip Williams’ book. The novel covers the making of the Oxford dictionary, protests by the suffragettes, World War 1, women as second class citizens, birth, death and romance.

Days 48 and 49

catching up ….sketching in my art journal

I haven’t posted my art pages in over a week. It’s not that I haven’t been making art but I have been reading a lot, playing bridge, going to a birthday party for 1 year old twins, participating in Book Club, attending an afternoon concert and shopping for mats so I can frame some of my art.

The following two pieces are all sketches

Days 50, 51 and 53 are coming tomorrow.

We Need More Peace and Love in the World

….day 31

Picked up my pencil crayons for this drawing. Reminded me of my childhood when switching from crayons to coloured pencils seemed like a step closer to adulthood.

Drawing doves and poppies has always symbolized the hope for peace. I feel like we need it more than ever.
