On Day 3 for SquareUp I’m posting my ring light, one of my requested Christmas presents. I’ve discovered that during Zoom meetings I’m always sitting in the dark or I have shadows over my face. Not sure if this is an improvement because now I look very pale. Unfortunately I tend to get pale in the winter anyway but that’s life.
Three years ago my daughter bought me a book of 500 art prompts. The first couple of weeks I was pretty good at sketching the prompts but for some reason I was hung up on the next prompt in the book and put it aside. For some reason I have a need to do the prompts in order and not skip any. I should have kept the book in plain sight but I put it back into my book shelf and forgot about it. Today I did the next two prompts and will keep the book next to my pens.
Day 2 of SquareUp. Today I chose to find words with Up in them. While shopping at the top of the street I was thinking of this challenge and wondering how I could include supper in this post. Then I remembered that I had a pot of soup on the stove that I made earlier today for tonight’s supper. Easy peasy!
It was delicious by the way. Sausage meatball and ravioli in a chicken broth with some veg for extra goodness.
….on day one I’ve started to draw from my new book In Bloom by Rachel Reinert
I’ve tried this before where I wanted to make art every day of the year. I made a lot but I didn’t quite hit 365 drawings in 2018. This year I won’t beat myself up if I miss a day or two but I’m going to give it another go. My husband gave me a book for Christmas that I asked for and today I cracked it open and drew the first two flowers featured in the book.
I’ve discovered over the years that I’m very much drawn to flowers in my photography and my art. I always believe there’s more to learn so I’m really looking forward to drawing and learning more about flowers.
….trying out my new pencil crayons that my son-in-law gave me for Christmas
To start the New Year out right I signed up for a three hour art class that went live over Zoom. There were over 500 people in the class and I recognized a few faces that I’ve come to know from Carla Sonheim’s on-line classes.
The class was intended to bring out our creative juices in writing and drawing. It was hosted by Carla Sonheim and Chris Wells and featured painter, Bobby Lucy and Guitarist, Jeremy Bass. It was a very relaxing and enjoyable session. I especially enjoyed the writing activities.
Before the class began I put together some art tools for the class and I came a cross an old ink line drawing that I had done years ago. I decided to test out my new coloured pencils that my son-in-law gave me for Christmas. The colours were rich and lovely to work with and gave the old line painting new life. My first official bit of art for 2021.
It’s the new year and with it comes Becky’s January Squares challenge. This month the theme is UP. You can interpret it anyway you want…looking up, uphill, upbeat, uplifting, etc. or the word ‘up’ can be part of a word like cup, tuppence, supper, super, etc.. The only rule that you have to follow is that the photo must be square.
….I like photographic challenges, they keep me on my toes when I’m out walking and looking for interesting subjects to snap photos of
I’ve always wanted to host a photo challenge and I think I’ve come up with one that is relatively original. The challenge is to find subjects that show up in a cluster or group of three. They can be birds, animals, people, flowers or inanimate objects. They can be staged or things you find naturally in the great outdoors or indoors. There are no other rules. They can be in black and white, colour, square or rectangular.
There is no need to write a story or even leave a caption with your photos. That’s not to say that you can’t add a poem or some text if you are so inclined. Whatever floats your boat. I’m looking forward to see if there is any interest in this challenge. If you decide to try it copy the link to this post and paste it into your blog. I should get a ping back and I’ll respond to your post.
