WPC – State of Mind

….our photos are a reflection of our mood at the precise moment we press the shutter button

This week’s challenge is to post photos that represent a state of mind. Here are some shots I have taken when I’m at peace, happy, sad and curious.

WPC – Seasons

….no two years are the same

This week’s photo challenge asks us to take photos of what the season looks like where we live. February in Toronto is usually cold and white. At least the two years before this one were like that. Today the temperatures were mild and the only snow came from the skating rink after being cleaned. Here are photos from two years ago in February at Col. Samuel Smith Park and today in the same place.

Optimistic

….this week’s WPC theme is optimistic

How do you portray optimism in a photograph? That was the question that I immediately asked myself when I saw this week’s challenge.

As some of you may know I received a new camera for Christmas. I have to admit that I was very optimistic about all the wonderful things that I would be able to do with this camera but it hasn’t been easy to manoeuvre this new device. I’ve actually been overwhelmed with all the new functions.

Tonight when I took one of the dogs for a short walk I noticed how beautiful the first full moon of the year was. It was early in the evening and it wasn’t even completely dark but the moon hung low in the sky and it cast a beautiful reflection on the lake. The lights of the city were exceptionally bright and I was optimistic that the moon, its reflection and the city skyline would make a wonderful photo.

I hurried back home for my camera and set the function for hand held night shots. It was bitterly cold but I played around by the lake’s edge, gloves off, to get the perfect shot. The final product is better than any shot I’ve ever gotten before but I’m optimistic that when I purchase a zoom lens for this camera my night photos of the moon over the city will be even better.

A Late Afternoon Walk – Now

…this week’s WordPress Challenge is Now

This week we are encouraged to embrace the ‘now’ and share photos of the present moment. This afternoon I took a walk through the neighbourhood. It was getting late and the sky was cloudy. It was also very brisk and I was glad that I brought my gloves with me. Here are a few things that I saw on my journey to get more steps in today and to capture the things we take for granted.

WPC – Oops!

….this week WordPress is encouraging us to share our less than perfect photos

Some of my long time followers may remember these photos from my birthday in 2014. My husband loves to ride his bike everywhere; however, on that day he learned that not everything transports well over the handle bars of a bicycle. Case in point….my birthday cake….a large, specially made Black Forest Cake, made with real whipped cream and loads of cherry filling.

None the less, it was delicious!
