RDP – Musical

thanks to the Ragtag community for hosting RDP https://ragtagcommunity.wordpress.com/2025/04/11/rdp-friday-musical/

Are we musical? Well we certainly love music and over the years my whole family has taken up learning to play an instrument or two.

I started singing in choirs in elementary school and as an adult I sang regularly in a German choir for 27 years and as a guest chorister in a church choir for special services. I learned to play the recorder as a child and taught my own students the melodic joys of this humble instrument. I dabble with the ukulele and have attempted to play the piano.

Two of my children learned to play the piano and they all took up instruments in school. Their choices were the cello and saxophone. Their father and my husband of almost 50 years is an avid collector and player of guitars and other stringed instruments.

Now our grandchildren are starting to show an interest in music. The cycle continues.

Two Days of Art and Culture

a little opera and lots of paintings

On Thursday I made my way downtown to listen to a wonderful opera singer, Midori Marsh.

Midori was the winner of the Women’s Musical Club of Toronto 2024 Career Development Award.

After the concert I walked over to the Royal Museum of Ontario but didn’t get beyond the gift shop because you can no longer access the museum via the store. I’m hoping this is temporary.

I could have entered from the main entrance but I wanted to check out the show at WAAC which is a block north of the ROM.

When I arrived at Women’s Art I was greeted by this sandwich board.

The show is wonderful with very large and varied pieces. One year I’ll attempt a large piece so that I can participate in this show.

Today Kevin and I attended the Lambton Kingsway Annual Art Show. Kevin learned that one of the artists that he follows was exhibiting here so he wanted to meet her.

Daily Art Challenge – Collage and Sketching

…days 51 to 53

Drawing figures from pieces of collage randomly glued onto the page

After reading the book The Dictionary of Lost Words I was inspired to create a double spread of collage and sketches that highlight some of the themes from Pip Williams’ book. The novel covers the making of the Oxford dictionary, protests by the suffragettes, World War 1, women as second class citizens, birth, death and romance.

Making and Selling Bread

…every week at Montgomery’s Inn

Every Wednesday I volunteer at the Inn making bread that is sold at the Farmers’ Market. On Tuesday I go in and prep the dough that proofs overnight in the fridge. Wednesday morning we shape the dough, heat up the outdoor wood burning oven and bake 40 to 75 loaves of bread.
