365 Days of Art – Squiggly and Relaxing

….day 87

Carla Sonheim’s prompt today was to create a design using lines or just doodling. This is just what I needed today. It was fun and relaxing. All three pieces were done in one of my many art journals. The first one took the longest but the other two were done very quickly.

365 Days of Art – More One-liners Transformed

…day 82

I keep adding more colour, collage, line detail and background marks to my one-liner birds. I also added two new characters that I borrowed from Eva Ucgatwork. I love expressions and how they appear to be in awe of these strange looking birds.IMG_1447

Second Project of Part 2

….day 80 of 365 Days of Art

For the Tape n’Stuff assignment that Carla Sonheim gave us I made two backgrounds. Yesterday I posted the first one here where I explained the process for this project.

Here is my second attempt at this unusual assignment.

365 Days of Art – Part 2 of Tape n’Stuff

…..day 79

I went back to some of the one-liner birds that I had done and decided to redraw two of them onto the taped and collaged background that I created yesterday. After I lightly drew the shape onto the collaged surface I took acrylic white paint and filled in the shape. After it dried completely I used a Koi Colouring Brush Pen in black and outlined the shape and added a few details. I then applied some water with a brush to the black marks to soften them and create shadow.

Here is the first completed piece:

365 Days of Art – Preparing Backgrounds

…day 78

In Carla Sonheim’s on-line year-long art class we were assigned to create some backgrounds (Part 1) for the next class. These canvases were to be created with collaged paper but instead of gluing them down we were suppose to use tape in a variety of colours and patterns to hold everything together. In other words the tape is part of the design.

Last night or early this morning I started making two canvases. I was totally engrossed in the process and by 2:30 in the morning I had completed two backgrounds. Here they are:

Step two is to paint something (an object, animal, person) in white paint somewhere on these canvases. Haven’t quite decided what to do but I have a couple of ideas. Stay tuned.

A Patchwork of Flowers – Day 73

…..365 Days of Art is moving forward

I get my inspiration from many different places. I’m inspired by all the artists that I follow on WordPress, by numerous on-line class instructors like Carla Sonheim and all the teachers at Creative Bug and finally from books.

Today’s inspiration came from Pam Garrison over at Creative Bug. The first step is to choose three colours of markers and create a rough patchwork of squares and /or rectangles. After that start drawing with a black fine tip marker different flowers for each section. You can use imaginary flowers or actual flowers or a combination of both.

Going Around in Circles

….a prompt from Carla Sonheim

Earlier this week Carla prompted us to be meditative by cutting up paper. She cut her’s into circles so I decided to follow her lead. On Friday (later today) Carla will post a new lesson and I have a feeling it will involve the paper we cut up this week. If I’m wrong I’ll come up with some way of using up all this paper.

Since this is a process towards creating more art I’m calling this day 65 of the 365 Days of Art Challenge.IMG_1348

365 Days of Art – Day 58

…..planning on creating a Dr. Seuss like character

For one of my year long assignments with Carla Sonheim I’m suppose to come up with my own Dr. Seuss like character. I decided to study some of Dr. Seuss’ illustrations and see what common characteristics they have. One is the u shape inside the large oval eyes that he uses for most of his characters. The mouth line is just a simple curve ending with a curved cheek line. Here are two practice drawings that I copied from his book What Pet Should I Get?

Complicated Colour Fields – Part 2

A couple of weeks ago I showed you a project that I started with Carla Sonheim called Complicated Colour Fields – Part 1. You can see what I made here.

The following week I had to cover the entire piece with different bands of acrylic colour and then sand away some of the paint, once it dried, to bring back some of the designs from below. I did that but very little of the original patterns showed through. I decided to share it with you because this is called 365 Days of Art, not 365 Days of Great Art. Some days you won’t get what you hoped for and sometimes it’s more than you hoped for.

For me these two pieces were a bit of a disappointment but I can see using them either has a backdrop for another art project or cut up or torn up for a collage piece. Do you have any suggestions for me?
