I See a Bird and a Piano!

….a piano????

This is day 92 of my 365 Days of Art challenge. In my last posting I told you about Carla Sonheim’s challenge More is More. This is my second attempt at taking a piece of art that I wasn’t thrilled with and adding more paint. For this one I was a bit more whimsical and started to add some funny little character drawings throughout. I sent the finished piece via WhatsApp to my granddaughter and asked her what she saw. Her reply was ‘a bird and a piano’.

Here is the original art followed by the new piece. What do you see?fullsizeoutput_6d09

365 Days of Art – More is More

….Day 91

Normally we say less is more but for this assignment from Carla Sonheim we were to take a painting that we weren’t crazy about and add more paint. The steps involved covering the whole piece with a gel medium, let it dry, and then apply colour randomly with paint markers. The whole idea was to create like a child and not think about it too much. After the piece was covered with marker the fun really began. I used more paint markers, black Sharpie and white gel pen to add more line detail for this piece. Here is the original piece followed by the new piece.

365 Days of Art – Yellow

….day 90

A few days ago Carla Sonheim posted a prompt. It was a quote from the artist Pierre Bonnard. I have to admit that I had never heard of him before but he managed to make a living from his art in the early 1900s right up to the 1940s while living in France.

The quote was “One cannot have too much yellow”.

I decided to take a page of one-liner drawings and add some colour with paint and collage. I painted the background with yellow watercolours and then I cut up paper to add texture and visual interest to the flowers. After that I took markers and conte pencils and added more lines and squiggly detail.IMG_1448

365 Days of Art – Squiggly and Relaxing

….day 87

Carla Sonheim’s prompt today was to create a design using lines or just doodling. This is just what I needed today. It was fun and relaxing. All three pieces were done in one of my many art journals. The first one took the longest but the other two were done very quickly.

365 Days of Art – Back to Simpler Times

…..days 85 and 86

I’ve decided to go back to my sketch books and rework some old pieces and draw at least one new piece each day. This way I keep my hand moving and working on my drawing skills at the same time.

The first piece is one of the collages that I made with my two year old granddaughter. I added some line detail. I’m not sure that I’m done with it but it was very relaxing and therapeutic at the same time. The second piece is a sketch of my walking shoe that I was literally wearing when I sketched it.

365 Days of Art & Week 14 of Collage

…..day 84

It’s been too long since I’ve created art; not sure why. I’ve had lot’s of inspiration but I think I’ve been surrounded by too much clutter. Tonight I cleared a space and produced another collage from the The Collage Workbook by Randel Plowman. In week 14 the challenge was to use stamps in our collage to create an additional layer of intrigue.

When I was a young girl my aunt had a personalized stamp made for me with my name. So it consists of my German first name Carola and my maiden name Winkler. I can’t believe that I saved it all these years. I used parts of envelopes and stamped labels and a bit of Washi tape to create my collage.

Six Deliveries in a Week

….my neighbours must have been wondering why the UPS and Canada Post trucks were stopping in my front of my home so often in such a short space of time

No it wasn’t because it was Christmas or someone’s birthday. I’ve decided to make more purchases through Amazon because the prices are good and shipping is free. Well it’s free for both my husband and me because we took advantage of the free Prime delivery service but forgot to cancel it after one month and now we’re paying for it. So it isn’t exactly free but we need to take advantage of the service or we will be paying for nothing. One of the advantages to having Prime is that we also get Prime TV shows and we’ve seen some good series and movies.

Anyway some of things that I’ve ordered are books and art supplies. A lot of these things were ordered on the same day but the delivery dates were random. One item I received within 12 hours and some took longer because the seller couldn’t guarantee faster service but I knew this when I ordered them. Everything arrived in pristine condition and was exactly as I expected. I’m one happy customer.

Cee’s Odd Ball Photo – April 22, 2018

….thanks Cee for hosting the Odd Ball Photo Challenge

I’m a little late this week and I could have saved these shots for tomorrow but I’m hoping I’ll have new ones by then.
