Hint of Spring in February

…not all of February was cold and snowy

Last weekend we had beautiful weather that brought the walkers, dogs and photographers out in droves. I think people knew that more snow and colder temperatures were on their way so they took advantage of the cleared paths, sun and warmer climes.050-C6016-EFC2-43-FC-BCA4-EF096425-C551-1-201-a

Playing With the Zoom Lens for an iPhone

…..it’s a bit tricky holding the iPhone with this long lens attached

I was very excited when I received all those wonderful lenses for my iPhone at Christmas. I used the fish-eye lens first (which I promptly lost) and posted a few of my experiments soon after I received them.

A couple of days ago I headed out for a walk with my trusty iPhone in hand and the zoom lens in place. I came across a group of birds, flying back and forth and hopping from one branch to another. This is the best I could do.

As I got closer to the park the wind picked up and the temperature fell. I came across some ducks, some in the lake and others in the pond.

I tried using the zoom lens for some landscape shots, sometime focusing on the branches in the foreground and other times on the background.

I’m not sure why it’s happening but can you see how the horizon  line in the second set of photos is bowed?

Here are a few more photos taken of objects and scenery in the distance.

The only disadvantage of taking photos in January, even on a relatively mild day, is that your fingers freeze very quickly. Did I mention that the winds picked up and the temperature dropped? If I didn’t feel frostbite coming on I would probably have stayed out longer. As you can see from the last shot I was losing the light anyway. If you have any suggestions about using the lenses for an iPhone I’d be very appreciative.

Cheers!

Sunday Morning Walk

….an exceptionally beautiful day

I knew that I would be indoors for most of the day trying to clean-up the two rooms upstairs so I went out for my walk early today. Frances and I headed out towards Col. Sam Smith Park. It was a glorious morning and the runners, dog walkers, nature photographers and cyclists were out early as well. With my iPhone in hand I took as many photos as Frances would allow.

Seven Day Nature Challenge – Day 1

….thank you Becca for inviting me to this challenge

Becca Givens from On Dragonfly Wings With Buttercup Tea has invited me to join the Seven Day Nature Challenge. I was first drawn to Becca’s blog when I saw her beautiful Sunday Trees and I’ve posted pictures of trees every Sunday since that day. For the next seven days I will post a photo taken from nature and ask a different person each day to join the challenge.

I’m hoping that Jodi from Life in Between will accept the challenge. She a lady of many talents, including art, cooking, poetry and photography.

Signs That Summer’s Coming to an End

….other than the cool temperatures

This morning on our walk we wore long pants and sweaters even though the sun shone brightly. I noticed that the leaves are starting to change, flowers are beginning to whither and seed pods and burrs are everywhere. I took a few photos of the changes. Enjoy!

January 2013 Photo a Day – Surprise

…. I don’t know who was more surprised, me or the ducks?

The biggest surprise today had to be the weather. We hit a record high for January 12th. It was a great day for a walk. Everybody and their dogs were enjoying this beautiful, warm, sunny day. Even this family of ducks took advantage of the warmth and were out for a little stroll along the path.

Unfortunately this lovely picture didn’t last long when Frances realized that there were ducks walking ahead of her and when the ducks caught wind of Frances in the rear. The flock quickly took flight and landed in the lake, far away from any canine company.
