….We’ve had exceptionally warm weather in April and with the mild winter that we had the daffodils appeared early

I love the waves on Lake Ontario and Georgian Bay where our cottage is. I won’t be going to the cottage for at least another month but the lake by our house never fails to provide some magnificent waves.

Who is that lonely character that I see before me?
Off in the distance, standing guard on the grass
Hidden but not, an unusual white mass
His days are numbered for him to see
The weather is his enemy.
….after a heavy downpour on Saturday the ground was so saturated that ponds appeared over the grass
The ducks loved it and enjoyed their new pond for at least a day. They aren’t that evident in my photos because they swam further away when I walked closer to the edge of the newly formed pond.

The Pond at Col. Sam Smith Park, after being almost completely drained of water a month ago has come back to its former self probably due to the heavy rainfall on the weekend. Sadly the day was still overcast but at least the rain had stopped.

….despite the cold temperatures there are signs everywhere that spring is here
Today the sun is out and the temperatures are above freezing….momentarily.

I’m always searching for the perfect or at least somewhat interesting photo when I’m out walking. On days like today when the temperatures have dipped below freezing and there’s a brisk wind in your face it’s uncomfortable taking off your gloves to shoot that perfect shot. I have come up with ways to warm up my hands when I put the gloves back on but I am definitely fussier as to what I want to photograph.
Today on my walk in the park I managed to get a shot of the beach closest to the park entrance. After taking my first photo a flock of geese took off in the sky and I managed to grab another shot. I wanted to get a photo of the bullrushes that were shaking off their fluffy seeds but the wind prevented me from getting a perfectly focused shot. In the end I decided that the shots that I had managed to get were fine for today and because I was in danger of slipping into the pond if I got any closer to the bullrushes the consequences could have been very bad for my health and longevity.

It doesn’t matter where you sit or what you sit on, these people were determined to enjoy the mild temperatures and sunny day this past weekend. Quite incredible when you think that it’s still winter in Toronto and barely the middle of February.
