Thursday Doors at the McMichael Art Gallery

….thanks to Dan from No Facilities for hosting Thursday Doors https://nofacilities.com/2021/09/23/superior-street-doors/

Today my daughter, Andrea and I drove to Kleinburg to visit the McMichael Canadian Collection of Art and the spectacular grounds that the gallery is built on. We lucked out with the weather and were able to walk around the property before we entered the gallery. Located on 100 acres of forested land along the Humber River, the McMichael is a major public gallery uniquely devoted to collecting the art of Canada.

The Small Gems Show

now on at the Women’s Art Association of Canada on Prince Arthur St. in Toronto

This is one of my favourite art shows at WAAC. All the pieces are small and nothing is more than $400.00. This year I submitted three of my abstract flower/poppy paintings and one has already sold.

Yesterday I did some gallery sitting to greet visitors. I was there in the morning so it was very quiet. No more than 10 people are allowed in the gallery at once and of course everyone must wear a mask.

It’s not a huge show. There are about 100 entries. I walked around several times and really took in the individual pieces.

Darkness Into Light

This show is running until October 8th and if you’re in town this weekend it will be open to the public on Saturday, Sept 26 for Culture Days. Normally WAAC is only open from Monday to Thursday.

When I went to WAAC ten days ago I saw this show first hand. The participating artists are all members of the Women’s Art Assoc. of Canada. Earlier in the year at the beginning of COVID a call went out for artists to create a piece of work that spoke to them about coming out of the darkness of the pandemic and into the light of hope and new beginnings. Here are a few examples of what you will see when you attend the show.

New Art Exhibit – Day 27

…thanks to Rainee for hosting the 30 Day Creativity Challenge

As I’ve said before my creative juices flow whenever I take a new class or walk through an art gallery. This week I had some work to do in the library at the Women’s Art Association of Canada and while I was there a group of busy women were installing a new art show called Creative Spirit. Here are a some of the pieces that spoke to me personally.6C0DDFB7-6EE2-4AAE-94EF-EC1DF9CE3B8A_1_201_a4C2FE8D0-D67D-4167-B53E-0A9090526C80_1_201_aB3ABC133-A488-4230-895F-E5936B98E270_1_201_a0251AF1A-98EC-4C53-A6F1-A93CE6206C49_1_201_aB115452E-0F7B-4287-B3AC-D55D1729007B_1_201_aFCE74DB7-9EB6-4E2D-B856-52682EBFA06E_1_201_a1CE6A520-ED11-4D11-9228-DCFD6083B9F8_1_201_a3CE3810B-02C2-4348-BFC3-4239AD887629_1_201_a

Day 21 of the 30 Day Creativity Challenge

…thanks to Rainee for hosting the 30 Day Creativity Challenge

Last week I had an opportunity to go to the McMichael Gallery in Kleinburg and see the Maud Lewis show. I’ve been interested in her art and life for a few years now but have never had an opportunity to see her work up close and personal. To be honest I was always a bit curious about her success as an artist because her work is so simple and somewhat primitive.

Maud used to sell her work to tourists who would buy her pieces for $3.00 to $5.00 and later she got as much as $7.00 for one of her oil paintings. She used to paint right from the tube and never mix her colours. This was very evident when I saw her work last week. The colours are very bright and fresh and the scenes of the countryside in Nova Scotia are delightful. I can now understand why the public liked her work so much.

Anytime I go to an art gallery I’m inspired to make art. Here are a few of her wonderful works of art. The larger pieces are done on wooden shutters.

A “Flow” of Creative Paintings

…thanks to Rainee for hosting the 30 Day Creativity Challenge

Although Rainee has completed her 30 days I’m only on day 9. Today my creative activity was taking in the creativity of others. I made a trip to the Women’s Art Association of Canada in Toronto and took in the new show called Flow. I was truly inspired by the work of these amazing artists.

Lens Artists Photo Challenge – Creepy

…thanks to Leya for hosting this week’s Lens Artists Photo Challenge

Many of these photos were taken at art galleries in London, England and here in Toronto.   Others are from the Toronto zoo and from the Highgate Cemetery in London. The one of my son-in-law is a selfie he took because he knew he was being followed by that fox. Being followed by a fox is the creepy part for me not my son-in-law.IMG-0331

Blue Skies Through a Window

….thanks to Becky B for hosting July Blues

This lovely blue square was taken inside the Museum of Contemporary Art in Toronto. It was a beautiful day, despite the heat, and we enjoyed an iced coffee in the on site cafe. The big windows made it feel like we were sitting outside on a patio but in the comfort of an air conditioned space.IMG-3103
