A Fan of…..Raptors

As I was walking through High Park last week I notice a couple of people intently looking up through the trees. I was looking a for short cut back to my car so I headed in their direction. When I got closer I looked up and I could see a beautiful Red Tail Hawk with his back to us. Here was a moment when I wished I had my telephoto lens with me but I had use my iPhone and hope for the best.

I wanted to get a shot from the front but when I stepped on a twig and snapped it the hawk flew away. He didn’t go far so we followed him to the next tree, a couple of times. I tried to walk without making too much noise but it is almost impossible this time of year with all the debris that lies on the hard ground.

I knew that If I waited longed enough I might be able to get a shot of him taking off for the next tree.

It pays to be patient.

Lost #7

today I lost one of my favourite gloves on a walk through High Park

I didn’t want my glove to become a Lost object for someone else’s post so I retraced my steps. I figured I walked about 1 kilometre before I found it and I’m sure that one of the dogs in this off leash area had picked it up and moved it off the path. I was lucky that I spotted it. Then I had to turn around and try to catch up with my group. I was exhausted when I got home today.

In this last photo Lucy isn’t lost but she stood there for 10 minutes as if she was lost. When my son-in-law got home he got her to move. Getting old sucks, even for dogs.

Water, Water Everywhere – #68

After our adventure to Tiffany Falls last week we were hoping to find another falls close by but for some reason our GPS kept taking us to someone’s private address. We knew we were close to the Ancaster Mill so we went there instead. It’s beautiful in the summer. Unfortunately or luckily (it’s pretty expensive) the restaurant is closed because of the pandemic but we were able to take in the falls that flows past the mill.

On our way home we decided to find one more waterfall. Kevin had forgotten that we had actually seen Albion Falls last October but he never got out of the car that day so this sighting was new for him. I must say that most falls take on a different appearance when the seasons change and I was pleased to see it again.

This is as close as one can get to the falls and there is no access to the base of the falls this time of year.

Water, Water Everywhere – Tiffany Falls

For this week’s #67 challenge I have photos of Tiffany Falls to share with you. Earlier this week my husband and I had quite the adventure getting to this beautiful waterfall in Ancaster, ON.

Ancaster is just south of Hamilton and Tiffany Falls is just one of over 100 waterfalls in the area. Two weeks ago this waterfall was completely frozen. You could actually walk behind the frozen wall of ice. Since then a lot of the snow has melted but in the wooded areas the snow melted and froze again so the trails were very icy. Before we started out my husband lent me his ice cleats but that meant he didn’t have anything on the bottom of his shoes.

There were parts of the path, especially when it went uphill that were so slippery I didn’t even trust the cleats. At one point a nice gentleman who also had cleats on his shoes helped me over a rise on the path. Unfortunately it was at this point that my husband stopped and didn’t try to get closer to the falls. Luckily he was able to see it from where he stopped and his camera allowed him to zoom in and get a closer look. I walked all the way to the lookout. In some of the photos you’ll notice that there is a family that went right to the base of the falls.

When we got home I immediately ordered a second pair of ice cleats.

Thursday Trios – #10

it seems that somewhere down the road I numbered one of the posts incorrectly but it is now corrected

Looking for trios can be challenging but sometimes they are right under our noses. Case in point, the photo with the stringed instruments is in my living room and the yarn has been hidden away but it was in my house.

There are no rules as too when you post, how often, or what you post as long as there are three objects, people or animals. Join the fun and copy my link and paste it into your post.

Sunset – March 2, 2021

I don’t know if this is typical of a winter sunset

The saying goes ‘Red sky at night, sailor’s delight….red sky in the morning, sailor’s warning’.

I’m hoping that means that tomorrow will be a beautiful day but the sky almost looks ominous tonight. What do you think?

Texture Tuesday – March 2, 2021

I love textures and the closer you get to plant material you can find some very interesting textures from fluffy to spiky. Todays photos feature a spiky seed pod and a Queen Anne’s Lace flower in its final stage. The flower gets stranger looking as it goes through its metamorphosis. My husband thought it actually looked creepy. I guess if you don’t know what it is, it does look like something is crawling out of it.
