Closing the Cottage for Another Season

despite the warm and sunny weather

I brought home all the bedding to wash and the canned and bottled food. There is no heat in the winter so any food left behind would freeze and cause the bottles and tins to explode. All the clean bedding, pillows and paper products age packed in sealed containers or bags so that any mice that might find their way into the cottage don’t chew them up for their nests. Luckily in the last few years there has been little evidence that mice moved in.

It’s very difficult closing the cottage in September. Many believe that this time of year has the best weather. Warm during the day and cooler at night….perfect for sleeping. Normally I wouldn’t close until mid October but this year we have a family wedding to attend and Thanksgiving is going to be at our daughter’s place.

All the outdoor furniture is brought indoors and the propane tanks are turned off and the BBQ is covered and moved closer to the building.

Good-bye Christian Island. See you next year!

Five Plus Two = 7

On my way to close up the cottage this weekend I stopped at Harris Farms. The pumpkin displays were amazing and they let the cows out on the pasture next to the displays. The children loved being able to get this close to the animals. One of them let her bladder empty and a little girl shrieked ‘look Mom, they pee’.

Thursday Trios on Friday – September 27, 2024

autumn trios

As the flowers die off they leave behind their seed heads for next year’s crop.

If you have any trios to share please copy my link and paste it into your post. When I get the pingback (after I return from the cottage) I’ll be sure to check it out. Have fun!

Seven Carrots for September Squares

thanks to Becky B for hosting Seven for September Squares https://thesquaresofb.com/2024/09/25/seven-squares-25/

After baking today I rummaged through the garden at the Inn and pulled some glorious carrots that had been planted earlier in the year. Some were very small and others were lovely and plump. I grouped them in sevens and here’s what I came up with.

Monday Murals – Street Art in Guelph

walking through the back alleys

Last week Kevin and I drove to Guelph and after parking away from the main street we looked for a short cut to get back to the stores we wanted to explore. We ended up walking through back alleyways and parking lots and discovered a wonderful display of street art.

Seven Crime Novels

thanks to Becky B for hosting Seven for September Squares Challenge https://thesquaresofb.com/2024/09/22/seven-squares-22/

Visiting our local library this past week I noticed a table set up with a selection of crime novels. Did I choose one? No, even though I like reading this genre of book, I passed this time. I have two books on the go and I have six books on hold.
