Day 29 – Sharing Sketchbooks

….day 29 of the 30 Day Creativity Challenge

Thanks Rainee for inspiring me to create for 30 days.

Last Friday I spent the day with our granddaughter again. I brought her a sketchbook just like mine and her own blending stick. This, however, did not keep her from drawing in my book. I saw a picture on the wall of a simple vase with leaves pouring out of the top. I started drawing it. When Winnie saw what I was doing she added more leaves to my picture and started to colour in the vase. 41A34BFA-6E60-40D5-9E8D-2FF3FF131A1C_1_201_a

When she was done with that she turned to a fresh page in my book and drew her own vase with leaves. B99C367B-FF34-46B3-9D82-E539AE2E4162_1_201_a

Here she used her blending stick on the pencil and white charcoal details she added. She asked me to make a speech balloon with the saying ‘I need you’.

30 Day Creativity Challenge – Day 28

….photography is one of my passions

This week I signed up for an iPhone photography class. I’ve just started but already I’ve learned some very valuable tips. Some are as easy as how to hold the phone and how to position the phone on a low surface to get some interesting angles.

Days 24, 25 and 26 of the Creativity Challenge

…thanks to Rainee for introducing me to the 30 Day Creativity Challenge

I’m continuing to do a page a day in my sketchbook using words and drawing of things around me. The thing I’m not very good at is posting my work on a daily basis.091391EE-1FE0-49CF-9316-26F326FE2FDE_1_201_a3FC96E68-1385-4671-BFD0-E1ED73A5E1AC_1_201_a

One of the places where I’m getting my inspiration for these drawings is from children’s picture books. On day 26 I went to visit my granddaughter in Hamilton and I brought my sketchbook along. One of things I let her do is draw in my book.

We were going through one of her favourite books where she can make faces using the stickers from the back of the book. The faces are taken from all kinds of objects like fruit, vegetables, leaves, acorns, dishes, toys, etc.. One of the faces I enjoyed from the book was the leaf so I drew one in my sketchbook. Winnie chose a geometric pattern that she tried to replicate on the next page to mine.

We enjoyed making dialogue balloons and making up things that the object might say. I went from a leaf to acorns and the page started to come together. Winnie enjoyed the process so much that she wanted me to redraw some of the shapes on a clean page so that she could add her own details using a pencil and blending stick. The blending stick was new to her and she loved the effects of smudging her lines to create shadows (her words). Here are results of our time together.28F4F5F3-8B68-4B63-AF17-BEAE5C1D2BEC48D49571-01DA-4A55-9FFE-AD0E9404C2815DDE9588-FB21-4992-82F5-20AC8172E88047E1F2EC-A267-4C5E-B0CF-4856E0261256

Adding Music to my Creativity Experience – Day 23

…thanks to Rainee for introducing me to the 30 Day Creativity Challenge

Last week I started piano lessons. I have a beautiful baby grand piano sitting in my living room that no one has played in almost 20 years. Last year I had it tuned but I finally found a piano teacher who comes to my house for 40 minutes on Thursday mornings.

Gerry is also teaching my neighbour across the street and that is how I got to meet him. Little did I know last week that I would be starting my first lesson the same day. I am a complete newbie and he’s started me on scales and reading simple music. Luckily I know how to read the treble clef notes and I know where middle C is. I’ve been a good girl and have practised every day. I even went out and purchased some beginner piano books from our local thrift store.

Anyway I need to warm up before he gets here this morning. Wish me luck.

Day 20 of the 30 Day Creativity Challenge

….thanks to Rainee for introducing me to the 30 Day Creativity Challenge

I’m a bit behind this week posting all my creativity actiivities. Sometimes to get creative you host other people like we did on Sunday and other times you get creative or are inspired by creativity at work. This week I was inspired by the creativity of my granddaughter’s pizza making skills and the pizza making skills by 14 children at Montgomery’s Inn who were attending an all day workshop where one of the activities involved making and personalizing their own pizzas.

I very much enjoyed helping our granddaughter with making her pizza and walking around on Tuesday and giving guidance to the boys and girls at Montgomery’s Inn.
