Yesterday for a fleeting moment we saw our oldest granddaughter from a safe distance in front of their home in Hamilton. We were able to finally deliver her Easter gifts. Later in the day her mom sent us a photo of her enjoying her gifts.

I guess photos with this theme should evoke a sound in the imagination. Here’s what I came up with.

Art for Winnie
….still trying to send mail to our granddaughter
Before Easter our daughter put out a request to the family to send snail mail to Winnie. She was missing her friends and family and getting mail addressed to her might cheer her up. To date we’ve sent four envelopes stuffed with art and ideas to make art, stickers and other little surprises. So far three of the envelopes have been delivered.
We knew that we had to make a trip to Hamilton this week so I started making a paper doll house that came with a doll, furniture, dishes, a rug and a kettle. I ordered it on-line from an artist who was giving the templates away for free. I had so much fun putting it together and before I knew it I started to add more features, like a tree, a pathway, a wall in the backyard, and a outdoor lounging chair.

Outdoor Art During COVID-19

Walking through the neighbourhood these last seven weeks I’ve come across some pretty amazing art. Some are very simple messages hung on trees, others are temporary works of art on the sidewalks and others clearly took some time and thought. Here are a few of the works I’ve come across.

On the Hunt for Joy Challenge – Start a Garden

This week’s theme is ‘Start a Garden’. It’s a little too early to start planting here but it was a great day to start prepping the garden. I pulled weeds, raked up dead leaves and plant material and started to turn the soil. We’ve had a fair bit of rain as of late so it made this job somewhat easier to do. I probably put two hours of work in the yard and I may regret it tomorrow. I’m already feeling it in my knees.
I did, however, discover that some plants are coming back on their own. My kale survived the winter and is thriving. Chives always reappear every year but I’m surprised that my container herbs, such as oregano, thyme, and tarragon have also returned.

Tops to Lost Bottoms

A while back at the inn one of the staff members was cleaning out a cupboard and came across a dozen or more teapot lids without the pots that they normally cover. She asked the bread bakers if we had any use for them and two of us took some. I thought they might come in handy for an art project and I’ve used them once for a photography assignment. I might arrange them in shadow box with glass to keep them from gathering dust. Any other ideas out there?
