Complete this sentence: I’m looking forward to….

….doing more painting and art projects. I’ve been reorganizing my studio space for the last few months and even though I’m still not finished I have started to work on small projects.

What is your favorite comfort snack food?

My favourite comfort food is anything with carbs but I’m not suppose to eat them too often because when I start I can’t stop. My all time favourite comfort food is pasta.

What was one of your first moneymaking jobs (other than babysitting or newspaper delivery)?

I remember working in my parents’ milk store when I was 14. I did that till I was 16. When the store was held up for a second time and I was working that night my parents gave up the milk business and opened a fabric store.

What inspired you or what did you appreciate this past week?  Feel free to use a quote, a photo, a story, or even a combination.

This past week I spent time with a friend who is going through a tough time. I helped her check out nursing homes for her partner and I consoled her on the phone. It made me realize how quickly life can change and how important it is to live life to the fullest. I also spent time with a couple of other friends. With one we went out for lunch together at a really nice restaurant in a hotel and afterwards we walked downtown and browsed around in a few stores. With the second friend we drove to the mall and had lunch and did some shopping for a gift. Then we went to Costco and did our shopping together. We ran into another friend from our teaching days and quickly got caught up with what was happening in our lives. Each moment with all these friends was special in it’s own way.

On Sunday my sister came to visit with her daughter, son-in-law and her baby grandson. She lives about 3 1/2 hours away and she had to cancel a couple of times after Christmas because of weather. I knew that my husband and I had a funeral to attend on Sunday but I didn’t want my Dad to be disappointed again so I didn’t call her back to let her know we wouldn’t be there. Luckily they arrived before we had to leave so in the end we had a short but sweet visit and my father was able to finally take them out for lunch.

At the funeral we were able to reconnect with some of my husbands cousins, got caught up with up was happening in their lives, learned a few things about the family which we didn’t know and promised each other that we wouldn’t wait for the next funeral to get together.

What was one of your first moneymaking jobs (other than babysitting or newspaper delivery)?

It seems to me that I’ve answered this question before so I will keep my answer short. When I was 14 I worked in my parent’s milk store. I did this till I was 16. That job ended after the night I was robbed. My parents gave up the business soon after.

What is your favorite month of the year?

I think my favourite month is October. It is still warm but the nights are getting cooler, the leaves are changing colour and the markets are bursting with the harvest.

What three things in nature do you find most beautiful?

I love being near water, trees in the fall and the first big snowfall.

List at least five of your favorite spices? (excluding salt and pepper)

• cinnamon

• cloves

• nutmeg

• curry

• cumin

Bonus question: What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

I’m grateful for time spent with Winnie and her mom. On the weekend the two of them came to the house and stayed overnight while Dad drove to Sudbury on a business trip. They had also come over the weekend before but ended up going home Saturday night and coming back on Sunday. We’re trying to get Winnie used to sleeping away from home so that the the trip to Italy won’t be so traumatic. I thought she did really well but our daughter was a bit tired because she was up more often while she was here.

It looks like the plans for the wedding overseas are going well. The dress, wedding bands and  the suit and tie are purchased. The registry office in London is arranged and the pub for close friends has been booked. In Italy the rooms at the villa have been assigned, reservations for dinner in the town of Assisi the night before the wedding have been made and the meal for the actual wedding sounds yummy. Three and a half weeks before we fly to Venice.

Share Your World 2015 – Week 27

…….thank you Cee for this week’s questions

I’m a little late answering this week’s questions. The internet connections on the island were a bit wonky this past week so I had to wait till I came back to the city to post my articles and take part in challenges.

What is your favorite month of the year?

My favourite month of the year is October. It’s a busy month but the weather is usually mild, the autumn colours are out, the craziness of school opening has died down, we celebrate numerous birthdays in my family and we host Thanksgiving dinner. This year October will be extra special with the birth of our first grandchild. Can’t wait!

Do you drink coffee at all?

Yes! I couldn’t imagine starting my day without coffee. As I get older I like it stronger and it has to have cream. Milk just doesn’t cut it except in a latte or cappuccino.

What was one of your first moneymaking jobs (other than babysitting or newspaper delivery)?

My parents owned a milk store when I was 14 and I worked in that store till I was 16. They gave it up shortly after I was robbed. The guy pretended to have a gun under his shirt but I wasn’t about to question him so I emptied the cash register. This was the second time that my parent’s store was held up. Luckily no one was hurt during the robberies.

After that my parents opened a fabric and sewing machine store and I worked there off and on for the next 20 years when they needed the occasional help. Other jobs where I earned a pay check included working at Woolworth’s, Ontario Produce as a clerical secretary, Pitney Bowes making metal and later plastic mailing cards, factory jobs making Barbie tents and filling sample pouches with perfumes, gels and other cosmetic products, cashier at a large grocery chain, waitress and one summer I worked in Germany in a small family owned hotel as a chambermaid.

List: If you play video/computer games list 5 games you like?

This will be a short list. Scrabble and sometimes Solitaire

Bonus question: What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

I am grateful that I finally opened the cottage and spent a glorious week just puttering around and spending time with friends. I’m also grateful that my oldest daughter and her partner had a wonderful vacation on the west coast of Canada and returned safely last night.

In the coming week I’m looking forward to seeing a Pan Am soccer match in Hamilton (the game is actually tonight) and returning to the cottage. Hopefully this time my husband will be able to clear his work schedule and find time to join me for a few days.
