Combining Lesson One With Lesson Two

….my last random page

In the first lesson we were instructed to paste random pictures or pieces of paper on different pages of our sketch book and then go back and add more detail and bits of collage to create a picture. I put aside seven pages and shared six with you before I started on lesson two.

Today I went back to my sketch book and decided to take my last random page and add some of the transparency film pieces that I had cut out for my abstract floral designs. The original piece was the Alice in Wonderland  illustration and the spider was the second bit. Today I added the bird like creature in blue and I added a crown of pink hair and a red starburst. I also added a couple of speech bubbles to add a little humour.

I love doing Zentangles so I decided to tie everything together with black lines and patterns. The whole process was very relaxing and ‘zen’ like.fullsizeoutput-7660

Red Duck

….#3 of the transparency film collages

I’m really enjoying this technique and as promised I tried something other than flowers. One of my random cuts turned out to look like a duck so I built a landscape around him. I can only assume he’s a he because of his bright colours. I added some marker detail on the duck, such as an eye and feathers. After gluing everything down I felt there was too much white so I added a wash of colour with my Winsor Newton Promarkers.fullsizeoutput-765f

Abstract Floral Collage

….the first collage using the moon papers

After cutting up some of the printed transparency film I started to arrange the shapes onto one of the papers that I thought would make a nice background. Before gluing the pieces down I took a photo so that I would know what order and where to glue the pieces when I was reassembling the abstract still life.

Once all the pieces where glued in place I started to add some detail with white, black, gold and green gel. I think it helped bring some life into the piece.fullsizeoutput-7649

Cute Dino

…..Winnie asked if this was a dinosaur or a scary slug.  I said I was going for “cute dino” and she agreed

This is the conversation that my husband and our granddaughter had over What’s App about today’s drawing.purple

She then told my husband that this one is her favourite and she calls it sea slug.  It was sent as a Monster Monday pic awhile back.

Do Dogs Wear Bow Ties?

,,,,”it’s a dog with a bow tie but dogs don’t wear bow ties”

This was today’s comment for today’s cartoon drawing from our granddaughter to which my husband replied….”dogs do wear bow ties…they love bow ties and Papa loves bow ties too……but Bill the Cat, not so much.”

Enjoy!dog15

Moon Papers

…the beginning of Lesson Two for 2019: The Year of the Collage

Carla Sonheim has named these papers, ‘moon papers’ because the results looks like the surface of the moon.

The process involves using a Gelli plate with a layer of fluid acrylic. After the paint has been applied evenly you lay down a sheet of transparency film and press it into the paint using your fingertips. The goal is to try and make craters and interesting patterns on the film. I experimented with different paints and different papers. One of the papers I really liked using was the vellum paper.

Using the film allows for interesting colours to emerge when you overlap two different colours. You can see from the first photo how the colours change and peek through when  overlapped. The next step is to take these papers and cut them up into organic shapes and create new collages. The hard part is going to decide which ones to cut up and what kind of shapes to make.
