365 Days of Art & Week 14 of Collage

…..day 84

It’s been too long since I’ve created art; not sure why. I’ve had lot’s of inspiration but I think I’ve been surrounded by too much clutter. Tonight I cleared a space and produced another collage from the The Collage Workbook by Randel Plowman. In week 14 the challenge was to use stamps in our collage to create an additional layer of intrigue.

When I was a young girl my aunt had a personalized stamp made for me with my name. So it consists of my German first name Carola and my maiden name Winkler. I can’t believe that I saved it all these years. I used parts of envelopes and stamped labels and a bit of Washi tape to create my collage.

365 Days of Art – A Secret Message

…..day 64 and week 13 of the collage challenge

In week 13 Randel Plowman challenges us to create a collage with words and letters from magazines and newspapers to create a hidden message. Since I used entire words it shouldn’t be too difficult to figure out my message.

Have you figured it out?

365 Days of Art – Collage Challenge

…..day 62 and 63 and week 11 and 12

I’m a little behind with the collage challenge that Evelyn Flint started so I’ve done two weeks back to back. The first one was a numbers challenge. Randel Plowman who wrote The Collage Workbook instructed his readers to create a collage with numbers, either spelled out or in numeric form.

For Week 12 the theme is typography. This collage was created using letters and type from a variety of sources.

Week 13 should prove to be interesting. It’s called Secret Message. Stay tuned for more collages.

My Last March Square – March 31st

…..thanks to Becky B for hosting this fun challenge

I’m combining my collage challenge (week 10) and 365 Days of Art (Day 62) with my last March square. This collage technique is called décollage and it involves layering paper and then tearing away the top layer to reveal what’s underneath.

365 Days of Art – Squares and Rectangles

….day 53 and week 9 of the collage challenge

I’m starting to get back into my art making groove. This is the squares and rectangles assignment from Randel Plowman’s book The Collage Workbook. Evelyn over at Evelyn Flint’s blog has challenged us to follow the weekly assignments as laid out in Plowman’s book.

My entry is titled Basquiat Meets the Ballet.

365 Days of Art – Blue-Green Collage

…..another collage for the ‘colour plunge’ assignment

I’m really enjoy making these small collages. Randal Plowman has written The Collage Workbook and has set out 50 exercises to build up our collaging skills. Evelyn Flint and her sister are encouraging artists to join them on their year long art journey by making a different collage each week using Plowman’s prompts.

This is the third collage I’ve made for this one prompt ‘colour plunge’. The idea is to create a monochromatic collage using mostly one colour. Todays collage uses mostly blue greens. I used some of my text papers and finished it off with paint on bubble wrap that I printed on top.

365 Days of Art – Colour Plunge

…..day 34 and challenge #5 from The Collage Workbook

This week (I’ve finally caught up) Randel Plowman asks us to choose a colour and make a monochromatic collage using various shade of that colour. I’ve made two. The first one is mostly reds and the second one contains a variety of pinks. I’ve already starting using my art papers that I made yesterday. Check out Evelyn Flint’s colour plunge. They’re amazing.

365 Days of Art – Colour Charge

….day 32

I’ve gone back to doing more collage. This is from the Collage Workbook by Randel Plowman. It is assignment #4 where you apply colour to a collage that is primarily black and white. In the first one I added some touches of red using red paper and a red photograph and in the second one I added blue using a highlighter and chalk pastels.

Thanks to Evelyn Flint for starting this weekly collage challenge and introducing me to Plowman’s book.

365 Days of Art – New Books

….the last two days have been very busy

Days 13 and 14 are still brewing in my head. I haven’t yet learned to just grab my sketch book and draw whenever I have a spare moment or two. Today and part of yesterday I cleared away some of the Christmas ornaments and tidied up the house for my sister’s visit today. The unfortunate part was that I only spent about 20 minutes with her before my husband and I had to run off to attend a funeral out of town. I didn’t want her not to come because she had cancelled so many times since Christmas because of bad weather and I didn’t want my father to be disappointed if they cancelled again. When we got back from the funeral my father talked at length about the nice visit he had with my sister and her family. He took them all out for lunch before they had to head back home.

The funeral was out of town for a family member on my husband’s side. We’re glad we went. The service was pretty long but it was clear that our cousin’s husband was dearly loved. Afterwards it was nice catching up with some of the other cousins and promising that we would have a family reunion in the near future that wasn’t at a funeral parlour. Most of the day was spent driving to and from the funeral and spending four more hours at the memorial service.

Just before we left a parcel arrived at my door. On Friday I ordered two art books that were recommended by Evelyn Flint on her blog. Jill Kuhn also used the collage book and recommended doing the 50 collages challenge. The first book is called The Collage Workbook by Randel Plowman and the second one is Atmospheric Watercolour by Jean Haines. I’m looking forward to reading both books and am very excited about making more watercolour art. Stay tuned for more 365 Days of Art. img_0502.jpg

365 Days of Art – Collage – Day 12

…..thanks to Jill Kuhn who introduced me to The Collage Workbook

After reading Jill’s post today I was inspired to make some 5 minute collages. This is the first assignment in the The Collage Workbook by Randel Plowman. I’ve ordered the book and hope to work on my collage skills.

Here are four 5-minute collages.
