….even through the snow I have plants growing
Most of my winter garden consists of decaying plant material but I do have some green plants that don’t seem to mind the cold winter.

…with my granddaughter
It’s amazing to me what I won’t do for my granddaughter. Getting down at her level is not easy for me. It’s one reason why I want to get into better shape. On Friday my husband and I spent the day in Hamilton to give our daughter some time to work on her at home business. The teachers here are on rotating strikes so we try to help whenever we can. Here are some of the images of our playful day.

The vanishing point is where the road ends at the horizon, or river, pathway, row of trees, or anything else that gets smaller the further away it is.

….when you need to fix tools for the wood burning oven
Recently at Montgomery’s Inn some of our tools for the outside wood burning oven needed to be repaired. Seeing that there are no local blacksmiths in the neighbourhood my colleague decided to set up a temporary fire pit to heat up the iron tools that needed reshaping.
He started with the coals from the fire that heated up our bread baking oven. Once the interior temperature reaches its ideal temperature to bake our bread the coals are scraped out and into a metal garbage can. Using a long pipe he blew directly into the coals to heat them up even more and then placed the tools into the hot coals and then hammered them back into shape. Once the desired shape was achieved he cooled the tool in the surrounding snow. Ingenious!
