Walking through the old neighbourhood close to St. Joe’s Hospital I couldn’t help but notice how many of the old homes had new window put in as well as undergoing some major renovations. Some of the windows were clearly new but had kept the charm of the older house. Others were a complete departure from the older architecture.

On day 18 of SquareUp I found this lovely stream, up the hill in High Park but it seems like someone turned off the water or it’s frozen somewhere further back.
…who plays tennis outside in January in Canada?????
I know that the government is encouraging people to get outside for exercise during this pandemic but I never imagined that I would see people playing tennis in the middle of January.

That said there are many areas where ponds are dangerously covered in thin layers of ice. There are signs all over Grenadier Pond that the ice is too thin to walk on but any fool should be able to see that from the open water near the middle of the pond. Every day the ice gets thinner and thinner but the weather is starting to change and it should freeze over again. Not sure how long it will take for it to be safe but I’m not going to test it out.
I always find it amazing that trees can survive the extreme temperatures, especially those that are already growing out of the water. Here are some shots of the ponds in High Park over the last five days.

Most of us use our phones and GPS to find directions but there are still lots of old fashion ways to find your way around. This sign in High Park is one of them.

These photos are not from my garden. Today I walked through the gardens in High Park. Normally there would be snow on the ground but this year we’ve had unusually mild temperatures and next to no snow in Toronto. Little pops of green are everywhere, as well as the browns of winter (which I also love).

Who says that dried up means ugly or lacking in beauty? I personally love how dried up leaves and plants look on a winter’s day.
