Finding ‘Joy’ in a Pop-up Show

….sometimes shows get cancelled so members are asked to step up

Yesterday I dropped off three pieces of my work to the Women’s Art Association of Canada. The show that had been scheduled to go up this week dropped out and instead of leaving the gallery empty a last minute call was made to members to bring in up to three pieces of work to fill the gallery.

Yesterday after I dropped off my work I also volunteered to stay and help hang the show. Apart from hanging my solo shows, I haven’t been able to do this in almost a year and I really missed the challenge of working with other artists towards a common goal. Not only is the show called ‘Joy’ but it also brought me a great deal of joy working with these wonderful women.

My contributions were three pieces from my solo show that give me much joy.

Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah and Best Wishes for the New Year

I’m sitting here, alone, in my living room reading a few emails before I need to seriously finish decorating the tree, wrap a few more presents and fill the stockings. Tonight we will be celebrating Christmas at my daughter’s house. It will be the first time in 30 years that we haven’t celebrated in our home. I feeling somewhat nostalgic about that but with time things change.

Before I continue with my chores I wanted to send all my loyal followers and new bloggers who are just visiting for the first time a special holiday greeting. I wish for love, good health, joy and peace for all. May 2017 bring you all these things and more. For me the simple things in life bring me much pleasure and spending time with family and friends is more important than the number of gifts under the Christmas tree. I think that’s why I always have such a hard time asking for things I’d like for Christmas or my birthday.

This photo, taken two days ago embodies the joy I get from being with my loved ones. img_8549

One at a Time – WP Daily Writing Challenge

….today Word Press is challenging us to write on any topic using only one syllable words

Sing,  A Time of Love

Sing a song that brings joy

Make it full of whole long notes

High and low, soft and loud

Add a quick bar or two for fun

Sweet babes sing with glee

Dear Saint Nick is on his way

Hum, dance and dream

Of toys and sweet treats

Bless this day so near

Bring one and all home

to share and sing

Sing, sing, sing!

Share Your World – Week 3, 2014

I think the first question is the hardest

In what do you find the simplest of joys?

I guess one of the ways that I find the simplest of joys is baking or cooking for my family. I don’t do much of that anymore because my husband does most of the cooking.P1030326 I’m not complaining mind you, I love being pampered by him and he is a wonderful cook. I don’t bake much because I like my own cooking too much and I have a weakness for baked sweets.

Another way I find joy is to simply curl up with a good book and a cup of tea in the middle of the afternoon. I’m still working so I don’t often get time for that but in the summer I make up for it tenfold. P1010598

Jello or Pudding? And what is your favorite flavor?

It would definitely be pudding and my favourite flavour would be chocolate followed by coconut and banana.

Is there a language you would like to learn?

I’m terrible at languages. My first language is German and I’m sorry that I didn’t keep it up. I understand most of it and I can get by but I’d love to be more proficient. The other language that I wish I had worked harder at is French. I took French for about five years in school and I’ve taught in French Immersion schools for over twenty years but I discovered that you can’t learn a language by osmosis. Finally I think I would love to learn some Italian and maybe a little Spanish, just enough to get by when I travel to Italy and Spain (hopefully in the next two to three years).

Do you prefer juice or fruit?

This one is easy. Fruit all the way. A piece of fruit is much more satisfying and healthier than a glass of juice. P1000804
