….this comes from the first prompt of the new year long course that I am taking with Carla Sonheim
Threading lightly is a technique where you run cotton thread through wet watercolour and randomly lay it onto paper and press it with a brayer. We could leave it as an abstract piece or look for a shape within. I decided to find a shape and discovered this quirky duck. Tomorrow or later in the week I’m going to try this technique with ink and perhaps try a landscape.

….the lovely Becca Givens from On Dragonfly Wings With Buttercup Tea invited me to join the Seven Day Nature Challenge
On day 5 I’m inviting anyone who likes to take nature photos to join the challenge. Today’s photo was taken late yesterday afternoon when the sun was low in the sky, bathing everything in it’s beautiful golden light. Also high in the sky the moon was making an early appearance.

Elizabeth from Tea and Paper invited me to take part in this challenge. She is a fellow Canadian who doesn’t live too far from me, although I haven’t quit figured out where. She loves to take photos, make art journals and write poetry. For this challenge you need to post a photo each day for five consecutive days and attach a story to the photo. It can be fiction or non-fiction, a poem or a short paragraph and each day nominate another blogger for the challenge.
This is the last day for me and I’m going to keep this one short. I’m probably not going to make the deadline here in Toronto but It’s still April 8 somewhere in the west.
Busy Making Art
I’m a little behind today because I spent most of my evening finishing this piece of art. It’s the same technique that I talked about yesterday but it’s a slightly larger piece and has more detail than the yesterday’s still life. I’m a big fan of Hundertwasser so you can probably see where I got my inspiration. Now I need to give it a title. Any suggestions?
Today I’d like to invite Melissa from The Aran Artisan. She resides on the Aran Isles in Ireland. I love her idyllic life style and hope to some day visit that region of Ireland.

I can’t believe that the five days have come and gone. Here is my 5th contribution to this BW challenge.
Day 5

Day 1 to Day 4
Rules for 5 Day Black and White Challenge (there are only 2) 😀
For 5 days create a post any past or present photo in black and white.
Each day you invite a new photographer to join the fun.
Today, on day 5, I invite the talented Georgia from Rainbow Bakery.
….. it’s a non-writing day for the Zero to Hero challenge
I’m being asked to check out other themes for this blog. In other words choose a new layout format. I’m a bit hesitant to do this as I know how much time it requires and I’m pretty happy with the theme that I’ve chosen. Because time is scarce tonight I think I will experiment with this challenge on the weekend when I have a bit more time. It’s not that I don’t think that the layout is unimportant, quite the contrary. There are many posts that I find difficult to read because of the colour in the background. Often the font is too small and the contrast between the font the background don’t work well together. White text on black is the worst. It works well for photos but not for lengthy articles.
Day 5 – Today’s task
On Saturday I purchased a new table to support my newly repaired table lamp. For years it sat on a make-shift table that was well hidden by the couch and sometimes I covered it with a cloth to hide the ugly design. The job today is to assemble the new table. It’s an Ikea product so hopefully it won’t take too long to put together.
Well the job took close to 2 hours. It didn’t help that I put one piece in backwards and it took at least 15 minutes to remove the piece and turn it around. In the end the stand came together quite nicely and luckily it fit into the space. Here is the finished piece. I’m pretty proud of it.
