One Word Sunday – Hand(made)

…thanks to Debbie from Travel With Intent for hosting One Word Sunday https://travelwithintent.com/2023/02/26/hand/?blogsub=confirmed#subscribe-blog

I love to make things and because I use my hands they are classified as handmade. I frequently show my art but never my hands. Here are a few pieces where you can catch a glimpse of my hands. The envelope is a Turkish fold and is wonderful for messages and coupons. I gave this to a friend recently for her birthday with coupons to redeem for a girl’s lunch and visit to the art gallery or museum. The second handmade item is the art journal that I’ve shown here before. So much fun to make and helps me warm up for making larger pieces of art.

The Simplist Things Challenge – Day 5 and Beyond

…thanks to Amy Maricle for getting my hands moving again

I continue to fill up my little handmade art journal with slow drawing mark making. Sometimes I start with splotches of watercolour or I glue down some interesting pieces of collage or previous squares of slow drawing exercises. I’m enjoying the process and hope to fill in my journal in the next couple of weeks.

Walking on a Snowy Day

…I started out in the morning when the snow was still light

I knew that as the snow accumulated throughout the day I was less likely to get out for my walk so I bundled up and headed out mid-morning. On the way as the snow started to accumulate on the plants and trees I stopped to take a few shots of the freshly fallen ice crystals.

To Feed or Not to Feed the Birds?….that is the question

….feeding bread to birds seems to stem from an old European tradition

When my Dad was still alive I remember he used to save up his stale bread to feed to the ducks and geese down by the lake. I never gave it much thought until I started to read the warnings about feeding waterfowl who live in the wild. Apparently bread is very bad for them because it can prevent birds from getting the nutrients they need to thrive because bread fills them up. Also, moldy, bread can be dangerous to birds and can pose a number of health problems for them. If the chunks of bread are too large, they can actually block the digestive tract. A regular diet of bread products fed to waterfowl can cause serious harm and even be fatal.

I came across a group of people feeding the birds down by the beach. Although I don’t agree with the practice it did give me an opportunity to get some interesting shots.
