Using Stitching and Crochet for the Repetition Challenge
…Days 59 and 60 of my daily art challenge
BB Bash suggested that we could use hand stitching to demonstrate repetition. I’ve been using hand and machine stitching in my art for awhile. The hand stitching on this black card stock was very loose.
The crocheted hat is a continued repetition of half double crochet stitches.

Day 58 – Using Scraps
…the theme for Lesson 3 for BB Bash
Over the years I have learned to save my scraps from my collage projects. I’ve put down many layers for these two ‘scrap’ pieces’. I had no plan or theme in mind. It was completely intuitive.
Axe Throwing in Guelph
Kevin and I met at the University of Guelph and every once in awhile we like to take a drive, visit family and check out new venues. This trip we decided to check out the axe throwing place, Axe Riot. We’ve only done axe throwing one other time in the east end of Toronto.
After a quick refresher lesson we spent close to an hour throwing axes at a wooden bull’s eye target. There are many benefits to axe throwing. It strengthens your core, arms, shoulders and back. It improves your concentration, patience and hand and eye coordination. Plus it’s fun to get out and play with people in a social setting. If you’ve never tried it I would recommend that you get a group of friends together and find a local axe throwing venue.

Pull Up a Seat Challenge – A Seat Without a View

Part of our local park has been fenced off for a restoration of the shoreline. A fence is one thing but they’ve also put a fabric covering along the fence so you can’t see the lake or what’s going on on the other side when you’re sitting down.
Many of these benches at the High Park Zoo are facing empty pens that are also going through renovations.
Repetition – Lesson 2 of the BB Bash
…day 57 of my daily art challenge
In this class we were suppose to choose a shape, mark or symbol and repeat it using any medium that we wanted. In the first piece I chose circles and paint markers.
In the next two pieces I used lines and symbols.

Feeding Time at the Zoo
…Toronto High Park Zoo
Yesterday, after dropping off my husband at the hospital for his routine appointments I decided to drive the short distance to High Park. I parked in the lot by the park’s restaurant and went inside for a coffee but not before taking photos of the the gardens in front. Inside, while enjoying my hot beverage, I posted several photos on my blog. When I finished I packed up and headed for the zoo.
The zoo holds many fond memories for me. As a young child we frequently went there when my father had a day off from work. From all the old photos it amazes me to see how we would dress up for these outings. When we had our own children we loved going to this zoo. It was close to where we lived and admission was free.
Yesterday was relatively mild as I made my way down the hill toward the zoo. I was pleased that it was feeding time because that meant the animals were out of their shelters.
Most of the animals at the zoo are sheep, bison, cattle and llamas.
The feeding stations are also close to the pedestrian sidewalks.
Of all the animals the llamas were the most active.
On my way back to the car I was fortunate to see that the yak had come out of his shelter for a bite to eat.
