…..now that my big Ontario White Pine is no more I have a full view of my neighbour’s Black Walnut Tree
I don’t think I’ll replace my tree with anything this large. In fact I might just put in a nice little Japanese Maple. They don’t grow to be very big and something smaller would suit that space much better.

On Wednesday of this week this grand old tree in my backyard is coming down. In the grand scheme of things this Ontario White Pine is not that old. When we moved into our house over 35 years ago this tree was barely as tall as me. It should have outlived me but some kind of boring insect infected the tree and it is beyond saving. When the arborist from the city came to check that we weren’t cutting down a healthy tree he said very matter of fact that the tree was dead.
….just finished writing my report cards so I’m a little late posting this photo
Japanese Peony
The Japanese peony is considered a tree peony. Maybe I’m taking some license posting a picture of this beautiful flower on Sunday Trees but I saw it for the first time today and I just had to share it with you. I didn’t know that there were tree peonies. I’d only ever seen the herbaceous variety.

…..it’s June 1st and some trees have just blossomed
This is my neighbours flowering apple tree. For more Sunday Trees check out http://beccagivens.wordpress.com/2014/06/01/sunday-trees-133/
…..weather remains cool but the leaves are trying to emerge
Don’t know if this grand old tree is just slow to get out of the gate or if it has succumbed to last winter’s ice storm and frigid temperatures.
Same location as the previous tree but much more hopeful on the green front.

…..the trees are finally starting to turn green here
Both trees weathered the ice storm this past winter without too much damage. In the first photo you can seen the CN Tower in the background. Not too much green on this tree yet but upon closer inspection one can see the buds beginning to appear. In the second photo this grand old willow is bringing forth a blanket of spring greens. In a couple of weeks the foliage on this tree will obscure all views of the homes in the background. Both trees are situated on Ward’s Island, off the shores of Toronto.

….there’s just a slight tinge of green starting to appear on the treetops
Everything seems late this year. This time last year I was writing about the cherry blossoms in High Park (here). We’re looking at another week or two before that will happen. Seeing that there is no canopy of blossoms or greenery I will focus on the bark formations. I’ve always loved the texture of bark.
