Last Days of My Show

Generally most sales if not all are made in the first week of a show. I hoped to sell one more paintings or photographs in the last two days and much to surprise I sold a photograph in the first hour today and a painting in the last hour plus a few more cards.

One of the best parts of these shows is getting together with family and friends, reconnecting with acquaintances from my past and meeting new people. Yesterday I met two new artists who I hope I can keep in touch with. Today friends who have never seen my work came to the show and two of them completely surprised me when they walked through the door in the last half hour.

Thanks to everyone who supported me throughout my art journey and a special thanks to Rod for helping me set up the show, Kevin who spent three days with me at the gallery and Frieda who helped me take down the show.

My Solo Art Show is up and Running

after months of preparation

My art show in the Ruth Upjohn Gallery at the Women’s Art Association of Canada officially opened on Wednesday. I’d love to say that it opened without a hitch but alas a couple of problems did arise or should I say ‘fell down’.

On Wednesday morning I received a message from the gallery that one of my pieces had fallen. After finishing my shift at the Inn (I volunteer at one of Toronto’s Historical Museums) I drove into the city to fix the problem. When I arrived I discovered that a second photo had fallen.

The problem stemmed from the hanging system on the back of the frame. It works fine when you hang it in your home but it doesn’t work in a gallery situation where you are required to use D rings. I had five frames in total with this faulty system and I knew that it was only a matter of time before the others fell.

I took home the frame that broke and purchased two new frames and repurposed two similar frames that I had at home. I returned the next day and found that two more frames had fallen. I reframed and rehung the pieces. I know that the nothing else will fall now and I can rest easy.

The official opening reception starts in a few hours.

Here is a glimpse of what the show looks like:

Japan and Beyond

Myra Evans’ solo show at the Ruth Upjohn Gallery

After a month long trip to Japan, Myra was inspired to create these beautiful works of art.

She is a Toronto based artist and currently a member of the Women’s Art Association of Canada.

Myra integrates her own photographic images, along with digital technology and collage materials to create evocative and multi-layered paintings.

If you’re in Toronto, the show is on till September 20. Myra will be in the gallery Saturday, September 16. Gallery hours: 11:00 to 5:00. Closed Sunday and Monday.

The Second Large Painting is Finished

a very late night and a good chunk of today taken up making this painting

This one gave me a bit of trouble. The background was relatively simple to complete but the foreground just didn’t pop and the lavender didn’t stand out. After a consultation with our daughter, we came up with a couple of solutions to fix the problem. Along the way I made a few other changes as well and I think I can finally call this one finished.

“Lavender Hills in Assisi”

Now I just have to sign it, seal it and wire it.

At Last – My Opening was a Success

after months of work my show finally opened

Thanks to all who encouraged me to keep painting and then supported me with a visit to the gallery and/or messages of love. I couldn’t be happier.

Those little red stickers were the icing on the cake.

Ready for the Big Reveal

the doors open today for “Before and After Paris”

After months of preparation with ordering supplies, painting, framing and advertising, my show is ready for the public to see. I spent hours yesterday, with the help of two good friends hanging the paintings. Barb did a lot of the ladder work and Arlene eyed the levels and curated the placements. We were all very pleased with the final result. For those of you who live close by, I hope to see you at the opening but the show will be up till July 9th.

Here’s a peak of the gallery where every piece you see is mine.

Getting Ready for my Solo Art Show – June 29th – July 9

….I’m about 90% ready

I’m very excited to promote my solo art at the Ruth Upjohn Gallery at the Women’s Art Association in Toronto. I’ve called it Before and After Paris, simply because some of the work was created before my trip to Europe and more after I returned home. Here is the flyer that I designed with the help of my daughter, Andrea.

o-1

Most of my work consists of abstract florals and landscapes but I have also included some of my photographs in the form of cards. Here is a quick preview of some of my work.
