Six on Saturday – June 26, 2021
…thanks to the Propagator for hosting Six on Saturday https://thepropagatorblog.wordpress.com/2021/06/26/six-on-saturday-26-06-2021/
There wasn’t much need for watering the garden on Saturday. We’ve had quite a bit of rain and the forecast for the the next seven days is calling for rain pretty much every day.
I spent most of my time dead heading some of the flowers and pulling weeds.
I was delighted to see that the tiger lilies that Dad planted last spring have returned and are now in full bloom.
In the raised beds the lettuce and the kale are thriving but none of the bean seeds or sweet pea seeds sprouted. I’m beginning to think that the deluxe triple mix that I added to the beds was far from deluxe.

I’m happy to see that the tomato plants and the peppers are also thriving in the their containers and that the raspberry canes are starting to produce some fruit. I hope we can enjoy some of the berries before the birds and squirrels feast on them.

Six on Saturday – May 29, 2021
….thanks to the Propagator for hosting Six on Saturday https://thepropagatorblog.wordpress.com/2021/05/29/six-on-saturday-29-05-2021/
Six on Saturday is all about recording our work in our gardens and posting six photos related to the job. This Saturday was very busy at my house. During the week I had 2 tonnes of gravel and a tonne of soil delivered to my driveway.
Saturday morning my crew that normally cuts my grass came over to earn a few extra dollars and help me out at the same time. Prior to Saturday they had already made three trips to the house to pull up the weeds and level the area at the back of my yard.
After laying down the landscaping fabric they started to haul the stone to the back. It took close to three hours to finish the job but I’m very happy and can’t wait to find a fire pit to set up in the middle of my gravel sitting area.

While the boys were working with the gravel I spent my time hauling soil from the driveway to the raised beds, planter boxes and garden beds. I also planted a few more flowers and herbs and moved stones to create new areas for planting. I was dead tired and a bit sore by the end of the day but it was worth it.

Last Bath of the Season
…back in August I promised to post photos of the birds in the birdbath
On the weekend I decided that I needed to put the birdbath away for the winter. To be honest with you since I put it into my garden I hadn’t seen one bird use the thing. Well at least I hadn’t observed any action over there. I wondered if it was too close to where we sat.
Looking out the back door on Saturday I noticed that a bird landed on the edge of the bath. I quickly picked up my phone and gingerly made my way to the patio table. The bird took no notice of me but I didn’t want to chance it and scare him off so I stayed back and used my zoom feature on the phone. They’re not the best shots but I was pleased that the birdbath was a hit with this little fellow.
