Lines in Art – October Square

….thanks to Becky B for hosting https://beckybofwinchester.com/2021/10/06/past-squares-6/

This month Becky is opening up October Square to any of the themes from the last four years. Today I’m choosing lines. On my recent trip to the McMichael Art Gallery in Kleinburg I was introduced to an artist that is new to me. Her name is Denyse Thomasos (1964–2012). She was a Trinidadian-Canadian artist whose epic paintings incorporate imagery from a range of sources, including Caribbean textiles, historic slave ships, industrial shipyards, graveyards, villages and maximum security prisons.

October Squares – Past Delights

….thanks to Becky B for hosting Past Squares https://beckybofwinchester.com/2021/10/01/past-squares/

There are 4 years of Becky’s Square Challenges with 12 topics. This month we’re looking back at the prompts from past years and we can choose any photo as long as it is square. For Day 1 I’m going back to Lines and I’ve chosen the architectural lines in the hallways at the McMichael Gallery.

Built for Climbing

thanks to Becky B for hosting Tree Square in July, https://beckybofwinchester.com/2021/07/29/tree-square-29/

Some trees were meant to be climbed. This might come as a surprise to some of my former students because I was always the teacher that made them get out of the trees that grew on the school property. Of course that was more of a liability thing and images of my younger sister falling from a tree and biting through her tongue is a memory that never goes away. Luckily for her some of her teeth hadn’t come through yet so her tongue stayed in place but she did need stitches.

Home for the Neighbourhood Critters

….thanks to Becky B for hosting Tree Square in July https://beckybofwinchester.com/2021/07/28/tree-square-28/

Trees provide us with shade, oxygen, lumber, food and shelter for the critters of the world, including insects, birds and a variety of tree mammals.

Here in the city trees like the one below have been home to numerous racoon families in the past. I haven’t seen any in the tree this year but they are definitely around. We were sitting on our deck a couple of days ago when we noticed a family coming out of the roof of my neighbours garage. Unfortunately I didn’t have my camera in hand so I wasn’t able to document the event.

Combining Tuesday Texture with Tree Square. This tree is very fuzzy but I have no idea what kind of tree it is.

A Fallen Tree

….thanks to Becky B for hosting Tree Square for July https://beckybofwinchester.com/2021/07/26/tree-square-26/

Every winter a tree comes down on our lot at the cottage. It might be due to age, infestation, crowding, disease or a number of other reasons. This one fell across our pathway to the beach but our kind neighbour got out her saw and cleared the path for us.

New Beginnings

thanks to Becky B for hosting Tree Square for the month of July https://beckybofwinchester.com/2021/07/25/tree-square-25/

I’ve been posting mostly mature trees and trees that are at the end of their life cycle. Here is how new trees begin.
