“Guard well your spare moments. They are like uncut diamonds. Discard them and their value will never be known. Improve them and they will become the brightest gems in a useful life.”
― Ralph Waldo Emerson
I love this quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson. During COVID so many of us have had more time on our hands because commuting was no longer necessary to get to and from work because we were able to work from home but how many of you made use of that extra hour or two to do something for yourself. I’m painfully aware of this after I spend too much of my day binge watching TV.
One of the best things that my husband and I have done since January is to put aside one day a week, in the middle of the week, get into the car and drive somewhere where we can be in nature and go for long hikes and not worry about crowds of people. We’ve had a wonderful time and each week we become a little more organized. This week we even packed a picnic lunch and some weeks we had dinner cooking in the slow cooker so that when we got home dinner was ready.
Here are some of the wonderful places we have visited since January. These are our ‘brightest gems’ in our lives this year.
Ball’s Falls

Lime House

Webster’s Falls and Tews Falls

Tiffany Falls

Niagara Falls and Dufferin Islands

Crooks Hollow

Halton Hills and Hilton Falls

Wow. Was this all on one walk? So much beauty. Exhilarating.

O heavens no. This was done over six or seven different trips since the end of January.

Awesome visuals of your leisure time. We did a lot of hiking and being outside during the week too. Crowds were out on the weekends so we took advantage of the week day thing. It will be leisure time next week and so looking forward to it. 🙂

Me too! I’m might make the meeting on Tuesday. It is not supposed to rain so we may be home. Playing that by ear. 🙂

We’ll miss you but don’t stay home if the weather is nice.

The weather is going to be bad. Wednesday we will be kayaking so it is all good. I will probably seen y’all tomorrow. 🙂

Tomorrow may be the best day of the week here so I may not be joining you. My husband and I look at the weather forecast and decide which day we’re going on our weekly hike.

That is us too. We go by the weather and then plan our outings. Today is yucky so I will be on the call. If we miss you, enjoy your hike! Tomorrow is supposed to be better and is our actual anniversary. 🙂

I’m back from our hike but I can’t find the link for the zoom meeting.

Sorry I just saw this. I’m glad you found it and was happy to see you yesterday. We are going to do a little birding today. Thunderstorms later today kept us from getting the kayak out oh well. We are going to go pick some organic strawberries too while we are out. 😊

Sounds like a great day despite not getting out on the kayaks. Yum to those organic strawberries. No local strawberries here till June.

Yes it was hot though. Tomorrow is our big birding day so I’m excited about getting out there! 🙂

These pictures are so amazing, Carol. I can’t believe how beautiful the falls all are. You have done so much in just one day per week. How fun! Vince and I have loved going on our little hikes as well. It feels so good to get out and walk and neither of us got sick. Your Emerson quote fit perfectly – great advice for all of us! guard every spare moment! Thanks for sharing, Carol.
