….what comes to mind when you think of this time of year?
Here are a few things that I associate with December:
Santa Claus Parades
Homes decked out with lights and decorations
Christmas suppers with friends
Christmas trees
Children’s Concerts
More Decorations
What would you include in ‘It’s not this time of year without‘?

Definitely Christmas cookies. I just didn’t have a picture to share and I haven’t done any baking yet.

For me it would have to be drench weather, irritating adverts on television, endless emails about presents I must buy, stocking up with food in case of bad weather, and deciding on whether it should be turkey, goose, duck or whatever for Christmas dinner. Then there’s the splurge on Christmas presents, and the worry of whether the recipients will even like them. But there’s also the intoxicating smell (red wine, brandy and lots of juniper berries) of home made chicken liver pate simmering in the oven, and I know its truly the festive season.

I’m glad you ended with something positive. I’ve never made pate. My sister who was here on the weekend was telling me that she likes to make pate. I’m going to have to give it a try.

It’s winter weather that makes me feel negative. Don’t like the cold and damp, the short days, and long for light evenings and blooming plants. One of the reasons we try and go away for a few days to the sun, but with the pound on the slide and Brexit looming over us that might be more difficult in future.

I hope you can find more to be happy about. Not much you can do about the weather. I’m sure my son is not happy about the pound or Brexit either. What a difference a year can make. This time last year when he was here he bought a new computer and saved quite a bit of money because the pound went so much further in Canada back then.

Down here in Australia, my list would be very different!! Right now – and for the next five days – we’re facing scorching temperatures, in the 30s! So my list would include many “hot weather” things at Christmas…perhaps you’ve just given me an idea for a blog post too! 🙂
