….a trip to the doctor, relief, enjoying the rest of the day
This morning my husband woke up with terrible pain in his foot. A quick trip to the clinic confirmed that he was suffering from gout probably brought on from the morphine he had been given after his surgery. Luckily the problem was quickly fixed with another medication.
We had planned, earlier in the week, to visit our daughter in Hamilton. K could feel the pills were starting to work so we took a chance and made the trip. It was raining when we left but by the time we drove into our daughter’s driveway the sun had come out. G suggested that we take a short drive to Dundas where we could walk along the quaint main street and take in some of the unique stores and enjoy a coffee in one of the popular cafes.
Dundas is a formerly independent town and now a constituent community in the city of Hamilton. It is home to about 27 000 people and is nicknamed the Valley Town because it is located at the bottom of the Niagara Escarpment on the western edge of Lake Ontario.
We spent a couple of hours walking around the area and enjoyed a light lunch on a wonderful outdoor patio. Here are some photos of our day trip.
We headed back to Toronto during rush hour but traffic moved fairly well. After a simple dinner of sausage and a couple of salads that we purchased at the local butcher shop in Dundas I took Frances for a much needed walk. It was another beautiful evening and we walked through the Humber College grounds. Total steps for the day: 10 500.
What a wonderful day it turned out to be for you!😊

Things are getting better every day. Today I’m leaving for the cottage for a few days with my other daughter and her partner. My husband is staying home with the dog.

My mother suffered from recurring gout in her later years and I had no idea it was so painful. I remember her saying she wouldn’t wish it on her worst enemy.
I hope this incident suffered by your husband is an isolated case and doesn’t recur.

He’s had this before. The first time came as a result of his chemo. Apparently when cancer cells die they produce uric acid. He’s had it a couple of other times since. The doctor is going to put him on a pill that will pretty much keep it from coming back but he’ll have to be on it for the rest of his life.

Oh, I didn’t know that about cancer cells. Very interesting.
I hope his recovery is going well!

Imagine how surprised we were when he first experienced gout! Just when you think the worst is over this awful condition raises its ugly head. At the moment his recovery is going very well. He feels so well that I think he’s resuming too many activities too soon and then he crashes.

Looks a lovely place. My son got gout when staying in Boston and eating lots of seafood. He was told to lay of the seafood as that is probably what was causing his. So obviously a complaint that can be brought on in a number of different ways.

It also doesn’t affect the same part of your body each time you get it. The first time it settled in my husband’s right foot, then his knee and this last time it was his left foot.

I didn’t know that, and I don’t think my son does. It put him off seafood, and lentils and other things he goes easy on. Hope your husband’s recovery keeps on track.
