A Blue Woman and Coffins

Cee’s Odd Ball Photo Challenge 2015 – Week 23

……an impromptu visit to the museum earlier this week furnished me with some very odd ball photos for Cee’s Odd Ball Photo Challenge

The nice thing about having a membership to the museum or the art gallery is that you can walk in at anytime and spend as much or as little time as you want and not worry about getting your money’s worth. Last Monday after my husband’s procedure at a downtown hospital we met our oldest daughter and enjoyed a nice lunch with her and then proceeded to walk to the museum to see if there were any new exhibits. We checked out an exhibit of Mexican textiles and then discovered a floor with African and South American masks, tools, sculptures, paintings and other artefacts. The blue woman sculpture and the  specialty designed coffins from Ghana, I thought, made excellent photo subjects for this week’s odd ball challenge.

This coffin was designed for a fisherman. My husband said that his coffin would be a guitar case.

  1. I wonder whether the blue woman is a relative of the Blue Men (http://www.blueman.com/). 🙂 That car coffin has to be the most original coffin I’ve ever see. As for museums, I understand what you say about having a membership. One of the things I loved about the Cleveland Museum of Art, a world-class museum, is that it’s still free and parking is quite inexpensive. But that’s not the case most places. However, a membership gets you into openings and events for free, so it’s still worth something.

    • I love the fact that the Cleveland Museum is free. When I went to the Netherlands a few years ago I bought a pass for 40 Euro which got me into most museums free of charge. The beauty of their pass was that it was good for a whole year. There are so many museums in that little country that it was easy to use it and have it pay for itself. The other advantage was that you didn’t have to wait in line, you could go right up to the front. That alone made it worth it to have one. When we left we gave the pass to our son who was living there so that he could use it with his friends.
