Thanks for trying to help identify this caterpillar. Seeing as there is no tobacco on the island I decided to investigate further. I started with the tobacco worm but then found a site that identified moths in Ontario. What we have here is a Maple Prominent Moth….not good. They are defoliators and about every 10 years they do a lot of damage.
Yikes! Odd critter, regardless. The ones we have here in the states look almost identical. But, hence the name, they are usually only found in and around tobacco crops. They’re a nuisance here too, though most farmers have given up on growing tobacco years ago now.
Looks like a tobacco worm.

Farmers have also given up on tobacco farming here as well.
